January 4, 20215 yr A friend gave me a whole box (several cubic feet) of trimmings from a rough-sawn cedar fencing (?) project. Don't know what to do with them. Most are about 16" long and they're about 5.25" wide and 0.5" thick. Most of the ones I looked at had pith and cupped, so if I ripped out the middle, I'd have some nicer quarter-sawn stuff I could glue up. I have no idea if stuff like this is treated with anything. Since I am still fed up with my crazy-bird-squirrel-deer-raccoon-possum-anywildlifethatwandersintheyard-lady suburban former neighbor, I do not want a bird house or bird feeder for the property.
January 4, 20215 yr Popular Post I doubt it was treated due to cedar’s anti rot properties. Maybe you could make some small planters.
January 4, 20215 yr You may not need/want a bird house or feeder, but they do make nice gifts for folks to do like them. Or look over some of Steven Newman's small box builds for ideas. Or doll house furniture for next year's Christmas for kids projects.

Maybe you could build a few of those squirrel launchers?
January 5, 20215 yr Popular Post they are cedar so yard decorations like flowers, welcome signs, wood mail boxes garden signs. would all be a good use.

Harry, I haven't kept up in the hobby for quite a few years - but those lighthouse tags used to be highly sought after by collectors, and would bring top dollar in good shape... That would have been around $75 back then. Making birdhouses with a tag on the roof was how my son & I got into that hobby; I probably sold a couple hundred of them, with & without the tag, but we only used the common ones we got for free at the junk yard, or without the tag for people to use their own. I just looked at ebay, there are a few like yours on there from $25-60...
January 8, 20215 yr Some of the ones, that one include, were supplied by the customers. Most were given to me.
January 8, 20215 yr Popular Post @Harry Brink I can see you do not have a yard full of squirrels. Nice design. Made a birdhouse of the same design with my grandson. It does make a nice project for the plates.
February 2, 20215 yr Author Well I tried to start a garden carry-all today. I found a tag on one piece that they were treated with "micronized copper azole" Searching on this they say stuff like "well it's safe, but avoid food contact, wash your hands well after using, don't burn, wash clothes separately after working, don't work with sawdust, don't turn on a lathe, don't use on beehives where it might contact honey, etc. etc. etc." Looks like the garbage man is going to get a load every week for a while. Drat.
