River tables and leftovers.

I posted a few days ago about my son deciding he wanted to make "river" tables. Here is a picture of one his first efforts. Not exactly turning but there's more to the story.

Know I'm his dad but I'm seriously impressed.

Anyway, he had resin left to use up so he threw some scrap pieces into something and poured the resin over it. He brought it to me asked could I make a globe out of it. It was not quite 5" long and about 5" diameter.

I wasn't crazy about the idea and I have no desire to turn resin but he's my kid, you know? Told him I would try.

What a mess!! It got much worse too.

Well, I'm glad to be nearly done with this but pleased with it to this point. It finished out right at 4-3/4" diameter. He has some voids to fill, then I'll remount it, sand, and finish off the bottom. I think it's going to be really pretty but a little resin turning goes a long way.

I would say that the table is fantastic and Dad is not doing bad on the sphere.

I think your boy really built a nice able, and I'm really impressed with the mess you made!:P

That green resin is amazing.  Nice job on the table by your son.  Thanks for the reminder of why I don't like turning plastics.  Your sphere is well shaped.  Nice work.

I agree with Dan on that green and the whole table.  Super nice!

Beautiful work. And the things we do for our kids.

I would like to know how the resin dries that thick. I poured some clear over a small table around three months ago and the part that was 1/2” thick still isn’t dry.

Just a hunch, but isn't it basically like an epoxy where the mixture has to be pretty precise?  I've screwed up epoxies that way before.

It should cure.

Too cold, not mixed right proportions, not mixed well enough, cheap or bad product.

Super job on the table and on that globe.  After seeing that, I won't even be trying to turn resin.  But, that ball is superb.
