Trying something ENTIRELY new with a Purple Heart Blank

I would say that you are progressing very fast!

That second bowl has quite the shine, what do you have on it for a finish?

Just cutting board oil that's it....

That is really looking good. You might want to look at other finishes, Cutting board oil will not give a lasting finish. Waxes work well on hard exotics to give good appearance, but do need replenishment.

I was considering looking into to tung oil for finishes at this point.  I was able to pick up some tung oil at lowes this morning.  Good thing they open at 6 AM LOL.  The 3rd purple heart bowl I will be giving the tung oil finish a try out and see how well it does.

I would not recommend Tung oil for exotics. The more porous woods it works fine but as you get to much harder and nonporous it kinda sits on top so you cannot repeat the coats in a timely manner (daily) so will take much longer to get a build. By the way drys faster if thinned 50% by turpentine or mineral spirits. Watco might be a better choice or some other Danish oil

Fortunately I'm not in a huge rush with it now.  I don't have to have these done until Christmas time frame at least.  I've still got 4 other blanks to work on as well.
