Popular Post PatriotWoodturning Posted August 27, 2020 Popular Post Report Posted August 27, 2020 Here are a few more bowls from the past, circa 2015. When I was working for a landscape company in the Florida Panhandle, I was able to obtain free wood fairly easily. These are White Cedar and Live Oak. Both are surprisingly pretty. I especially like the dark brown coloration of the Live Oak. And the Cedar, well its Cedar, need I say more. Jim L, Gerald, Gunny and 7 others 10 Quote

FlGatorwood Posted September 5, 2020 Report Posted September 5, 2020 @patriotwoodworker, it is great to have you here. Thank you for showing your work. I am curious as to which part of the Florida panhandle. Eastern time or Central time? It is good to see that someone can actually find someway to stabilize live oak. It is so unpredictable. All I have ever tried to use would cup, twist, warp and bow. I have talked with several woodworkers with the same results. So, those are great looking bowls and your craftsmanship is to be greatly admired. What kind of gouges? What finishes? Gunny 1 Quote

Thank you so much for the kind words. These were finished turned green and I had zero warping or cracking. I must have gotten lucky. For gouges I use Benjamin’s Best turning tools. Never tried carbide, so I just stick with the traditional tools. My primary finish is just Minwax wipe on poly. For food safe finish I use walnut oil. I have used friction polish a little as well.
