Lost a piece from the spoon

Featured Replies

I guess this is more of my shop hiding these little pieces that some how fall off another project.

Here I was tooling along throwing saw dust all over and look up and realize the top part of that little heart on top of this spoon is missing...

I did a complete cleaning of the entire shop and nothing to show for that effort....but I did find a few things off of other projects that have been missing over the years..

I have found in the past to forget looking for the pieces and go on and cut out another piece, glue it in and forget about the miss hap.. But for some strange reason I wasted about 1 day cleaning and looking... and so in the end I did glue in more wood. Funny for I did find the center of that heart I cut out yesterday which I don't need..IMG_20200821_201243509.jpg.d09da386be09bf6638eebeb769b4459d.jpg

That looks terrific! I know how you feel about the missing piece. I do lose (misplace) things far more than I used too. My solution is to walk away and come back later. Most of the time I see what I lost. If I can't find it, I don't get upset, I just move on to other things. Life is too short to worry about it. My mother used to say,

" Don't let the devil get you angry, He is testing you to see if you can handle it" The older I get the handling part is easier and easier.:)

Okay I got the piece made and glued in and went ahead and glued the center of the heart back in for the extra strength it might need.  then worked a little on the spoon...

Not any pictures like this to go by...I just drew this thing up from scratch but about half way finished making saw dustIMG_20200822_120850377.jpg.bbb99ff7afadca0ea9c2403a8dd627f0.jpg

I decided I wasn't  happy how it was looking so I changed and now have grapes instead of...

Beautiful artistry any way you look at.

My technique, having lost something somewhere sometime, is to choose/buy/borrow a replacement item, and then put it in its "proper place".  Usually the lost item also turns out to be right there.  Apparently we might not remember a specific place, but the logic of choosing that place is more consistent than our memory of that place.

All I put on the mesquite was 100% tung oil and Johnson's paste wax.

Beautiful!!

That is a nice looking spoon sheesh, I need to give spoon carving a go it might be good to try during the overly cold days this winter.

They're both very nice. Can't wait to see the results of your painting talent.
