August 19, 20205 yr Popular Post Building these for our turning club. Needed shelves over our lathes for turning wood or other small things. In the historic building we meet in cannot put nails or screws so this is overbuilt. Note this is like shop furniture and not fancy, unusual but not fancy. this is metal is from my shop shelves which were broken when I got them so used the wood and saved these. Did not realize plan was in pic. These are the finished ends for one shelf. The ends of the x was being cut in first pic. Plan is to have two of these facing each other in room and a bar between them to stabilize.

August 21, 20205 yr Author Popular Post Today working on shelves for this first set of legs. Trying to use some wood ghat has been in my shop almost 20 years so modified my original plan a little and placed a keeper on the end of the shelf to keep it in place. Placed a metal x on the back to add rigidity. That is one done and one to go.
August 21, 20205 yr Gerald, those look good and sturdy. When you remove the screws for packing and moving, it retains its strength. I hope the fellows appreciate what you have done. I hope we get to see them put in place at the club house. Do you have plans to paint them or leave them natural?

I just don't get too revved up on finish on shelves. The shelves only sit on the steel at the ends with that small end piece of wood keeping it from slipping off . Had planned to have a slot in shelf to fit over the steel but the wood (salvaged playhouse) is too irregular and warped. Thanks
