August 5, 20205 yr Popular Post Well I decided to do a Newman but not as full. My carving and burning station needed something so cabinet and drawers were the thing. The stock for the cabinet was so rough looking on edges decided to edge band with cherry. Then used #3 plane to reduce it. Well then I have to sand that off, nice and smooth. Ok nothing of the assembly but this is what I have so far. Now a little on doors. This panel was not wide enough so I added a strip of Mahogany using a tounge and groove to secure it in place. Again no assembly pics . Totally assembled and then placed. No way to secure the back with the bottom panel in place so used a bracket to secure it . Well my choice for drawer front had some bad spots on back edges right were joints and bottom go so had to fill that. That was the progress for the last 3 days. Doors and drawer assembly scheduled for today and pushing forward.
August 7, 20205 yr Author Popular Post Well finally have something to show for the last two days. Got the drawer parts cot to size and did the joints and slots for bottom. The sliding dovetail is there now for the sides to fit front faces. Cut it the bottoms for drawers and glued up both. I routed the drawer faces with a raised panel but. Also used the same for door faces. The left door door will have a shell carved on it but that may take a week. Started applying Waterloo for the finish. Hope to get drawers installed tomorrow.
August 8, 20205 yr Author Popular Post So now for a surprise. Have always loved shells on furniture and have done on on a couple of pieces. Thought the doors looked plain do here we go. First draw out the pattern and then then cut the lines. Then the carving starts. Have used a Wecher before but this time it will be a micro motor. Thus bit is a stump cutter modified with a flat grind on the nose. This is day one progress.
