Ideas needed for dust collector bags

I have an old model Grizzly 4-bag dust collector (predates cyclone types). The bags are held on the dust collector frame with long hose clamps. As I get older , I struggle more and more getting the bags back on after I empty them. You need four hands -- two for each end of the host clamp and two for each side of the bag so it stays open as you put it on the circular frame.

Does anyone know of a better way? Does someone make replacement bags that have a rigid host-clamp -like setup sewn into the rim of the bag? Does anyone know what I am talking about, or has the toxic mold-ridden dust driven me completely mad?

Can't help ya. I'm aware of only the smaller bags with the integrated bands. Got one on a little 1 hp collector.

Please introduce yourself. We're a bunch of friendly folks and would really like to get to know you.

My Delta dust collector uses plastic bags that are held in place with the metal bands. However, there are metal clips that hold the bag while installing the metal clamp. There are 4 clips equally spaced around the collector

Might be something you can engineer

4 pieces of duct tape should help you.

Cut four pieces of duct tape one inch long and put them in easy reach of you.

Attach one piece on bag, half on half off, and place that part of the bag where it needs to go.

Repeat, going around the frame until the bag is in the desired position. Clamp it up!!!

Course if you had a seamstress or a tailor near you and supplied him with some small gauge bungee cord ( available on the internet) I'm sure he could fold the top edge ( or bottom edge) and see a bungee cord inside. Make sure it's small gauge ( about the thickness of a Paracord) and that way it won't get in the way.

On the little one I described, the bag is held in place with 4 rare earth magnets while the band is adjusted.

Welcome to the forum. Lew's trick really looks neat...I'll bet you could come up with something like that easily enough.

I had a local canvas company make lower bags for three dust collectors. I took one of the plastic bags to them and asked them to match the size, no problem with any of the three units. Two of the units (HF) use the spring clips to hold the bag until the band clamp is installed, these were fairly ineffective with the plastic bags (used duct tape) but with the canvas bags the clips alone work well.

Can you mount j hooks on the DC?

My HF vac looks similar to yours, it too is a pain to remount the bag. HD sells a huge rubber band made to go around a garbage can to hold the plastic bag in place. I tied a knot in one to make it fit the OD of the vac bag holder. Then it holds the bag in place until I can get the metal band and lock in place.

I've been using masking tape, like the duct tape idea mentioned earlier, but sometimes that doesn't work too well, depending on how dusty the outside of my dust collector is.  I like Gene's idea of the magnets.  I never thought of that.  Thanks for that one Gene.

You are most welcome, Tom.
