July 18, 20205 yr Popular Post If you go back to the entry prior to this "unusual ornament" you will see the block I made this one from. This one looks like it has many different designs in it and I didn't see this outcome until I stopped the lathe. I like surprises like this.
July 18, 20205 yr Popular Post Absolutely awesome. Thanks for showing that. I never would have thought of that.
July 18, 20205 yr That is beautiful. Always amazing how a square block glue up comes out when you shape it on the lathe.

Jim, The block glued up of Walnut and mostly maple is featured in my earlier entry about 3 entries ago. I started with 2 identical blocks. The earlier turning result is featured in the earlier post Edited July 19, 20205 yr by Ron Altier

July 19, 20205 yr Popular Post You are just tempting us to clean out the shop and use the scrapes. Whoda thunk such beauty could come from scrapes
July 19, 20205 yr Author Popular Post I am not versed in cube terms. I wanted to tell you how I turned it. So here is the real definition of how I turned it. I had a cube, A solid with six congruent square faces. a regular hexahedron. The point in a cube where 3 lines intersect at the corner is called vertex I put one vertex in the headstock and the opposing vertex in the tailstock. Which means one good turn deserves another. It TURNED out good
July 19, 20205 yr Popular Post Didn't you need to flatten the vertices a bit? In which case, would it not have become an octahedron? In any case, you turned it into beautiful ovoidal ornament.
