Having done a few of these spoons in the last months, I can say it's completely enjoyable. Just you, a hatchet, a couple knives, and a green log. You can do this anywhere, at the picnic bench in your backyard, sit there and enjoy the birds, the breeze, and trees rustling. Rough in the spoon blank with your hatchet, and carve it out with a couple knives. While my spoon carving is not near the quality you see in those articles, they are fully functional, durable, and fun to make. I highly recommend the craft to everyone, it takes you back to the beginnings.

I love the whole green-woodworking concept and philosophy and people in the industry, just a  really neat culture of woodworkers.
