May 19, 20206 yr Popular Post My wife has volunteered my services once more. A widow friend is moving into a one bedroom and has a coffee table her late husband made. She wants full length legs so can use as dining table. So I failed to get the pre photo but reconstructed some shots. Started by thinking I would cut the legs short and screw and glue new ones. We I got them cut and decided that would not do. Had to remove the fence board he tacked on with brads and no glue anywhere. Had 8 deck screws 3 inch long in each leg. . Lumber was rough so I planed it down and will round over for comfort. Place the short scrap as a brace and detail piece. Took the tapered scrap and rounded over the end then used a router roundover on edges . You may be able to see the taper I marked on the leg from about 2 inch at bottom and will round over the corners. Now for a question is the wide part of the leg better on the wide rail I have it placed or on the short rail?
May 21, 20206 yr Author Popular Post Got the tapers done. Made the braces and round overs on both. Glued brace to leg yesterday. Today glued leg to table and added three of those 8 screws I removed from old legs. Doctors appointment tomorrow so may be limited hopefully wrap up by adding skirt and sand areas touchable. By the way he made this from pallets and brads. Across the center is a support with tons of brass. I glued on a thin strip to make it more people friendly. In clamps in pic.
May 21, 20206 yr Author Popular Post The finish will be up to her, top is already finished. This will serve as a dining table and she plans to place a sheet of plastic over the top. My concern is that the skirt is rough sawn cedar fence boards and may be a source of splinters.
May 22, 20206 yr That looks really good for pallet wood. He must have been very selective. The table looks small for a dining table.

My sentiments on the size. I asked the wife to text her about the rough sides and she said to smoioth it. After this I will have practically redone everything except the top. If I had thought I could have run the top thru the belt sander but no turning back now. Got to work tomorrow so will be a Saturday finish , I hope.
May 25, 20206 yr Author Popular Post Got the skirt glued on and used a lot of clamps . Now wishi has planed the sides. remembered some old stain and did a test. She liked the Ipswich Pine on the right.
