We have been home nearly 10 weeks now in our self isolation. My wife has a medical condition the the virus could really hurt. All this spare time made me think about a prolonged ornament project. As you can see from the picture, many segments, many glue ups and several types of wood. When I got half way, I nearly quit,  thinking it would not look good. Even when finished, I didn't think much of it. However my wife was thought it was exceptional and claimed it as "hers"

Happy wife, happy life.

I like it.  Very interesting.  I understand about the wife vulnerability.  My wife has MS and Lupus, so if she gets much of anything, she probably won't make it.  She is much too weak to cough.  Not to hijack the thread, but when she chokes, I grab her up to give her those Heimlich maneuvers.  So, it is a constant monitoring.

Back to the post, does this ornament have a hole all the way through?  Or did you simply glue the tips on?

Some nice work, bet glue up took some time.  I tried some segmented stuff last year for some wine glasses.  came out better than I thought for first try.  I accomplish it I drilled 1/4 hole through the blank and sliced the black to 3/16 then used some 1/4 x 20 threaded rod as a clamp down through the center hole.  Turned on the lathe with a pen mandrel.  Being I needed a hole for the stem this method worked well.  So like @FlGatorwood I am curious how you did yours.

I gotta go with your wifes opinion, I like it.

My wife had a brain aneurysm last year, fortunately it happened at the hospital ER. It was repaired and she is fine. However they must go back in to the aneurysm location and look at it this month. Maybe install a stent if needed. Any Covid 19 could have a nasty effect on results.

Yes, I did add the end pieces later. Wasn't the plan, I had no plan.........I created as I went
