Popular Post Gene Howe Posted May 11, 2020 Popular Post Report Posted May 11, 2020 Monday again??? My how time flies when you're having fun. Got some planing done on the walnut for the tables yesterday. Gobs more to get planed today. This rough lumber was NOT milled flat. Gotta use the sled and wedges. It's a slow process. But, since we're still semi locked down (by choice) there's not a lot else to do. Tried to embed the Mommas and Poppas' Monday Monday here but, it wouldn't work. Ah well, y'all probably know it by heart, anyways. Cal, HARO50, FlGatorwood and 2 others 5 Quote

Popular Post Gunny Posted May 11, 2020 Popular Post Report Posted May 11, 2020 Was busy yesterday. Pull out old steps to back door. Side of house needed boards that should have been installed when built. Or again when I slapped the steps on. This time did it right. Built new steps. Be a few days before I can get them painted. Progress thus far. Larry Buskirk, Cal, HARO50 and 4 others 7 Quote
HandyDan Posted May 11, 2020 Report Posted May 11, 2020 (edited) Been waiting on a chuck I ordered Tuesday 5/5 and was given a delivery date of Friday 5/8 and then updated for delivery today. Don't think that will happen either. It is a small three jaw chuck with a MT2 mount so I can use it on most of my lathes. It is currently in transit to the post office? If that's true it will be the Youngstown post office and will have to be distributed to the Poland Village Post office so it can be delivered to me. Unless, the Post Office has some arrangement and it is delivered to me today. Don't know how this works or why. Here is the tracking info. Popular Post Fred W. Hargis Jr Posted May 11, 2020 Popular Post Report Posted May 11, 2020 Well, I have the framework of a spray booth set up. I broke down and took a trip to Menards to get some EMT, connectors and screw hooks. I was able to hang the EMT about 4" down from the ceiling, and I'll hang plastic sheeting from this frame to form the booth. The sheeting will just be clamped to the EMT, so it can be removed, folded and saved for re-use (I hope). That way the frame can stay in place. The last time I did this, had to remove the frame after every use and it was such a headache I quit using it. Cal, steven newman, HandyDan and 5 others 8 Quote

FlGatorwood Posted May 12, 2020 Report Posted May 12, 2020 Well, got the cedar box assembled and sanded. Ready for some poly and sanding up to 600. First 2 coats get 220 grit sanding between coats. Next several coats get 400 and 600 grits sanding between coats until it comes out smooth and shiny. Makes it easy to dust. That shipment that is being delivered by the Post Office would have been there by now had it been shipped by the post office. I ordered on Friday 25 slimline pen sets and directed that Rockler ship by U. S. P. S. I really don't want the stuff to fly all over the country collecting Covid 19 as benefits from FedEx. I refuse to use FedEx anymore. They need to shape up. Gunny, Cal and p_toad 3 Quote
Popular Post Cal Posted May 12, 2020 Popular Post Report Posted May 12, 2020 Monday was sort of interesting for me. I had a Dr. visit, yearly checkup on the ticker. This was the first time I had ventured out in weeks. I wore a mask. At the Dr. office there was the doc, plus 4 nurses (that I seen). Only one of them was wearing a mask, the nurse at the front desk. Coming and going I seen maybe four patients, only one other guy had a mask on. I stopped at Home Depot to pick up a few needed items. About as busy as normal. A couple of employees were wearing masks, a few customers had masks on. I did notice that more black customers had them on than white folks. Nearly every black person wore them. My week is to hopefully put this porch railing back on. Still have the front door to paint, may get to it today, in which case I would be hanging railing tomorrow. p_toad, HandyDan, HARO50 and 2 others 5 Quote

FlGatorwood Posted May 15, 2020 Report Posted May 15, 2020 Ordered 25 Slimline pen sets from Rockler on Friday, shipped on Friday afternoon, received by USPS on Tuesday morning. No problems. I cut 18 pen blanks on the bandsaw from some elm sent to me by Tom, who used to post here. Finished the cedar box on Tuesday. Cutting my last chunk of dried dogwood tomorrow. I will face and back it with cedar to make a bandsaw box of Lois Keener Ventura design. I will give a step by step procedure. So glad to have the cedar box completed. Gunny, Gene Howe and Cal 3 Quote
