A video by Jeff Jewitt on mission oak finish.  A good watch

Well I learned a few things. Thanks.

Note his use of "layered" color.  First the dye, then seal coat, then following with the wiping stain (used as a glaze).  Also note his "trial" before jumping in at the top.

That's pretty much the same technique that Mickley offered some years ago over at the old Wood forum. My question was actually more about getting a glass smooth table top with a Mission finish, but the main steps were the same. I did use shellac as a sealer....turned out real nice. I later used it on these dressers (OK, a dresser and a chest of drawers, I guess). This was for our daughter and matched a headboard she had bought perfectly.

Man alive, @Fred W. Hargis Jr. Those are beautiful!! Love the style and the finish is really superb.

Thanks, the one on the right is straight out of Wood magazine...and it's actually the second one of them I've built. The one on the left is the same plan with my mods to make it all drawers.

Really nice work Fred. Getting a glass finish on oak is tough. It takes a lot of build up. Love the design and the mirror.

Here's my version of the same.  A little lighter color and red instead of white oak because it needed to match a bed that was already in place.

Nicely done! Your hardware looks just a tad lighter than the stuff i used as well.

Fred and Keith, those pieces of furniture are awesome.  Kudos to you on the build and finish.  Love them.  Those will be around for many years and provide years of service.

Those are all just gorgeous

@Fred W. Hargis Jr @kmealy Y'all jut done good. My venture into mission was only for a tv stand and I just happened to have white oak left from my bench build. I was not trying to match so just used a canned stain.
