April 23, 20206 yr Here Lissa, I found this one by Woodcraft Hamster. Go to the 3:30 mark where he begins finishing.
April 23, 20206 yr Here is another handy tid bit of advice regarding avoiding the splitting of a cup. You'll hear this gent use the terminology "Linseed Oil". He is not talking about boiled linseed oil, he is actually talking about flaxseed oil. Across the pond they have different terminology for finishes, so please do not go out and purchase BLO, and finish anything that you intend to use for consumption, you won't like the taste!
April 23, 20206 yr And doing some more research into the making of a Kuksa for holding hot liquids, the tradition is to finish only the outside, not the inside. Just to throw that in there.

The reason they left the inside unfinished was to not have finish in the taste, or to have swirly oil spot on top of the liquid from the finish. I didn't get into what wood type may have needed finish on both inside and out, or just the outside. I'm reading though, I do love the Green-woodworking stuff and the Kuksa's and all that cool hand made stuff. Been delving into it myself lately, just started another spoon this past weekend, and finished one up last week, to make a set of 4. I'll get some pics up.
