If you look at the picture you can see a very large ring sprocket. That sprocket runs the generator. In in the middle of moving it right now or I would shot some more pictures of the setup. I only had a 1-1/2 water line running to it and you would not believe the power you can get with that small line. That wheel could easy supply enough power to run your whole house if you had a bigger line. Winter time chooses to be a challenge.

You are experimenting and trying. Most just yak about it.

A college professor at Ga Tech had his students build and field test it for classwork. Then removed for analysis. Worked well for power in a shed and two spot lights on a dusk to Dawn sensor.
April 9, 20206 yr Wind mills and solar installations abound around here. Not so many water wheels, though. Lots of places are off the grid. Most, not by choice. We investigated those options. At the time, payback was longer than our projected life span.

April 9, 20206 yr Author My water wheel was a pizza oven. It was at one time 16 feet wide. I got it out of a bakery that closed down many years ago. It was on the third floor. What a time I had getting it to the ground floor. This is a picture of the oven when it was still in the bakery.
April 9, 20206 yr ...I wonder what the state would think about me putting a water wheel in the ditch along the highway.

I'm on a 4 lane state highway, I'm sure somebody from the "City" subdivision behind me would complain. 1 minute ago, Woodbutcherbynight said: Navigation hazard??? Only for the above named that somehow end up driving into the ditch when using the turn lane that leads to the road with the entrance to the subdivision.

The land that I own at one time has a water run saw mill. Some how the prier owners got the water rights to the valley I live in. So now the water rights are on my land deed.

I have to pay for the water that runs through the ditch as a runoff fee on my property tax bill already, they'd probably come up with another fee for using it!

Larry, you sure have some weird property tax laws, up there. How on earth do they justify that? Well, on second thought, I guess they don't have to justify it.

Makes perfect sense. You'd love how they fill the ditch which is about 10' deep with snow in the winter tag plowing two lanes our way. Nothing like having a 4' wall of snow across the end of the driveway.
