December 23, 20196 yr I've had these forever. They was with my grandfathers tools. I have no idea what they are or what they are used for. Both made by ANDERSON BROS MFG. CO. Both have a slide on them. Both look like a file with no teeth. No sharp edges anywhere.
December 23, 20196 yr Author That was fast.. Thanks... I see that I'm missing the blades. Looking on E-bay I don't even see where any blades has ever been sold. I see the whole tool for sale but not the blades. Maybe I can make something different out of them.... Found a picture of a blade on google.
December 24, 20196 yr Popular Post Nice find @lew. Looks like the scraper and the blades can still be bought here. https://andersonscraper.com/product-category/anderson-original-solid-shank-hand-scrapers/

December 24, 20196 yr I actually have a set of them and know how to use them. They’re scrapers to scrape cast iron ways for machine tools. It’s a lost art because the machine tool makers grind their ways now. When I finished my apprenticeship in 1977, we used red lead to mark the ways as we scraped them. The feds outlawed red lead and went to a different compound.
December 24, 20196 yr Popular Post Here’s the proof. If you’ll notice there is carbide silver soldered to the scraper. The other scraper is one that I used to scrape Babbitt or bronze bearings like on a Norton grinder. Somewhere in the toolbox is a nifty scraper that I made to add “fish hooks” to the ways.
December 24, 20196 yr Author So maybe these two are scrapers to ? they was also in my box of tools. Bottom one looks like another file with no teeth...
December 24, 20196 yr Yep. The top one is a spoon scrapers for Babbitt. I’ve got one but didn’t like it so I made my own.
December 24, 20196 yr Worked for an engine rebuilder for awhile and used the curves scrapers to fit cam bearings after installing new.

December 24, 20196 yr If you’ll look, the bottom one has been made from a file. Looks like he put it in a surface grinder and tapered it. Not uncommon at all. Anyone who scrapes a lot has their own special tool and twist on how to do it. Here’s a spotter that I used a lot. The circle on the end is a rubber pad that You hit with the heel of your hand.
December 24, 20196 yr Author I'm not sure the file looking thing is a scraper. If it's not missing anything and I can't see how it could work. There is no sharp edges on it anywhere. There is a stamped Name/number on one side...
December 25, 20196 yr Well there was a file in that machinist chest I bought that had been ground down and now at least I can see a possible use.
