Welcome to Friday the 13th!   John Moody is experiencing Friday the 13th up close and personal so I’ve volunteered to put up his Friday post.  Seems his planer is still DOA and he has a bona fide electrician looking at it.

 

I spent the week building a pair of 46” wide bookcases that hopefully (fingers crossed) can be delivered before Christmas.  They’re built but need to be stained and finished.

 

So gang, what’s on your Patriot Woodworker weekend agenda.

 

Great looking book cases...as usual! 

Computer stuff will take much of the weekend. If I knew what I was doing, it would be a lot less time.

Bunch of turning blanks to glue up. Then maybe do some turning this weekend.

 

Got 2 of 6 fan pulls turned down last night.

Yeah, I build a large shelving unit to fit in the guest room closet.  The wire shelves (HATE HATE HATE Them) on one side came crashing down.   So the project this weekend is to tear down the wire shelves on both sides and put up something proper.  It appear that about 20 years is the lifespan of the plastic clips before they turn brittle and snap.

I am in similar boat, and we are taking on water.  The cheap shelves are warped, the braces had to have a emergency repair last week to keep the hanger rod in place.  Like you I am going to have to make something proper.  And while I am at it add a light because the closet is a dark place for those monsters to hide in.  But they are afraid of LED lights...  Or so my daughter once informed me.  

Doing a little bit....may go hide in the shop, tomorrow....see about cleaning things up a bit....might even make a bit of sawdust....

 

2 rip saws have returned home,  older one is missing a tooth.....brittle teeth syndrome....Chuck started to set the teeth...first one snapped right off.   Grrr..other rip saw is fine.   both have been sharpened.   May get a couple pictures tomorrow....

Not quite as sore, now.    Will see the Cardio guy Monday morning.    BP seems under control.

Good looking projects all!  Still making snow people here!  Little buggers have been popular!  Here is this weeks evening work!  Phase converter on the lathe was doing some “hokey” things off and on today.  Friday the 13th Had not occurred to me but glad you guys cleared it up!  Keep up the good work all!

I often turn a hat and snowman from one piece of wood and mix and match.  Others just get a hat with a little ink or stain for contrast.  The plan really has been that there is no plan with these.  A lot of this group were made as gift requests that my co workers have had and some even brought mystery firewood to use.  I turned one from an old Hedge (Osage orange) fence post this week.  Great color and grain but wreaks havoc on tools!  The end result may be worth the sharpening though!  Not had much snow and reckon if I can keep it away, I will cut less snowmen. Lol!

Finishing up the Christmas turnings.  Still have block puzzles to make.

OK, back in the shop again. I had built a desk and am now working on a matching printer stand/cabinet for it. In a stroke of genius I had some old kitchen drawers I though I would re-purpose for it...a very dumb thing to do. It's made everything quite a bit more work; shouldv'e just built them as I wanted. Anyway, the drawers started out being not exactly the height or width I wanted. I decided to leave the width alone, but cut one of them in 1/2 to make a smaller drawer. these will ride on full extension slides, so after calculating the frame size I need to hold them I started on the frame. Since these drawer fronts were red oak (what I needed) I stripped the finish off the fronts and will re-stain to match the desk. I had leftover red oak from my desk...I never use red oak (don't really like it) so I'm trying to use up all of it in my stash. So I made the side panels out of solid wood, and stained them for the problems we all know...I will also varnish them before final assembly. Then I realized I need to mount the slides, so I added a horizontal rail to fasten them. The pic is a dry fit with the stained panels. The frame is pretty much complete except for the finishing...as with the desk, this is all loose tenon construction (one exception, the back frame is stub tenons) so there shouldn't be any problem to pre finish any of it. Anyway, I have the top glues up and taking a Newman/Cohen approach I'm tapering the edgs with a hand plane....that's what on my bench at the moment.

I spent yesterday preparing the kitchen for inspection (by SWMBO) - and passed!  Will post up in the appropriate forum.

I think I will spend this weekend getting some picture frames made up, that's the plan anyhow.

Ron, really nice bookcases.  Beautiful wood.  Bondoman, nice snowman.  I have turned some years ago and I need to finish them.  Fred, really nice drawers.  Those are the hardest for me.  

 

Friday was wife's birthday, so it was preparing food, but son-in-law ordered Olive Garden, so we feasted.  She had the chocolate pie and I had a couple bites of the lemon cake.  Good but sweet.  

 

I hope tomorrow that I get to turn a couple of rolling pins.  Been waiting for months.  Got them cut down to size a few months ago, but turned only one that had an unseen rotten spot in the middle.  Will use the wood for something.  Then Monday, a trip to the routine doctor appointment for her.  We should be back home before it rains.  

 

Sorry I am late to this

Had two evening demo and sales event Thursday and Friday. Then all day Saturday to make this the best sales week I have had since I started selling three years ago. 

     Now my season is over .  Just need to buff out some bowls for gifts this  week and deliver.
