I've got a log about 14" dia and 18" long.  Haven't figured out how to slab it with the SS band saw. Haven't given it a lot of thought, either. Right now, it holds a 16" square piece of granite tile as a patio end table.

Gene, you can use a recip saw to split the log in two lengthwise.  Then it will fit on the SS bandsaw.  Anytime I get a piece of wood, I ensure the pith is removed.  I have a project in which the foot is solid pecan minus where the worms ate.  It is beautiful wood and finishes very well.  I have one tree in the garage but can't get things together to start working it.  That may change by spring.

I used to live in New Mexico. There is a pecan orchard in southern New Mexico that spans the road. In the summer time you drive thru a "tunnel" and the temp drops drastically. I was told a pecan tree takes 7-8 years to produce an lives over 100 years, still producing.
