In our area all the ash trees are dying. I have ways to move wood

so many people are just giving me free trees just for moving it.

I already fill my large wood shed to the roof and I need another

building to store the fire wood in. I have enough now for about

4-5 years. I can't pass up free wood. So far the building has cost

me nothing but time. I do factory clean outs and the metal and

bolts was free. Using fire wood sure save on the gas bill. All my

eight scrap sawmill fire wood boxes are now full. I use that first

because I need my empty boxes back at the mill. Each box holds

1/2 cord. I made a special trailer just to move the loaded boxes

around...

I'm using Wheelchair 24 volt motors to lift the carriage and push it

down the rails. You just cant beat them. They don't use much power

and they don't seem to get hot when pulling a load and you can get

them cheap on E-bay or out of the junkyard. So far I'm very happy

with the way they worked out. I used a worm gear winch that the

wheelchair runs to lift the carriage.

This is the best motors that I found for carriage movement .

Cheap... Low amp use. Tough. and easy to buy (E-bay).

Electric 24v wheelchair motors.

I found that it's best to use worm gear winches for the carriage lift.

Other winches when you let go of the handle they will unwind.

The worm gear will stay right where you left it.

In had this other type in a auto repair shop they used for raising exhaust hoses to vent exhaust outside.  They sucked terrible because as you stated no breaking mechanism.  If you were not careful they would fall, very fast, big bang, everyone is laughing.
