October 19, 20196 yr planned winter projects include building some Adirondack chairs for the back paito. Have the plans and hardware in hand, but no lumber yet. Suggestions on lumber to use?
October 19, 20196 yr I used cedar for all of the ones I made for our deck. Redwood was just too expensive.
October 19, 20196 yr I got some Sapele I'll use on mine with treated bottoms. There is always best to worst but the budget predicts the material but no matter what maitenance is the key... decides how long they will last.. Edited October 19, 20196 yr by BillyJack
October 19, 20196 yr Because I have the sapele already I will use it where you site and just use treated elsewhere. .... Your starting from scratch so you can pick the woods of choice. If you do use treated for ground contact you could buy it early and let it dry a bit before usage....

Pressure treated, or Cedar is better, if you can get some IPE for the seat that is tough stuff but maybe out of budget. 1 hour ago, BillyJack said: If you do use treated for ground contact you could buy it early and let it dry a bit before usage.... Definitely best way to go if using PT. 8 hours ago, DAB said: some Adirondack chairs for the back paito. I use the @Larry Buskirk method, find them on the street, or for cheap and refurb a bit. Matching chairs, eh who needs them. Keep us posted on how the build goes.
October 20, 20196 yr Ipe pretty expensive. It's become too expensive in the last 10 years... Paxton lumber in KC use to keep it in stock.. No longer...
October 20, 20196 yr I built a cedar swing. It is out in the weather but under roof. Has held up great for about 15 years now.
