Don't feel bad mine was over 100k and still growing...

This is the third time. :BangingHead:

I have used Timberwolf and the Highland turners blades and all were good but since I am kinda rough on blades getting kinks I changed to a local supplier. I get a 3 tpi 1/2 inch blade from a place called Fersco who also does commercial blades and they cost less than 10 but last me 3 to six months .

Most of the cutting I do is blanks for turning and a lot of that is green wood. Since I got the Carter berings setup it is even better. Even with a kink in the current blade does well. By the way I usually sharpen my blades 1 or 2 times before change.

Good morning Pat, what are you cutting, or going to cut, what would be the thickest lumber approx and do you cut mainly hardwoods or soft?

Most of the work on the bandsaw consists of 1/2-3/4" hardwoods, with some occasional softwoods thrown in.

Remember 1OOk to take kidney who knows what it will cost to put a new one in.  I'm hoping the insurance covers it..

I'd still be interested in a worst to best and best values summary.

Do they make custom lengths? Do they ship? Web site? I'd like to order some.

Suffolk Machinery sells Timberwolf blades and can make any size needed.

This is the catalog but I cannot tell if they ship other than commercial.

I am with the Timberwolf / Suffolk Machinery crowd.  Have used for last 7 years and still cuts sweet.  I went with a 3/16 blade for short radius cuts using a circle jig, and a 3/4 blade for re-sawing.

Guys, didn't really learn too much about my situation but allot about where to get custom blades and everybody's medical mishaps. ;-) Save two. Hope everybody is now doing well except for those major bills. Mine were $78k for my heart surgeon.

Pat, the Olsen blades are a good quality blade.  I've been using them for a few years and happy with them.  The smaller you go the sharper the radius you will get.  1/8" blades are used for scrolling along with a Carter guide bearing set up.  The guides make a big difference for the thinner blades.

This is why I have the 3/16 blade, can make a very sharp radius with my circle cutting jig if needed.  Also for those exotic radius curve cuts it helps to not bind the blade.

Pat,

Sorry about the sideways track.

Not sure what size/brand of bandsaw you're using but the general rule is that wider blades get used for straight cuts.

As to the TPI the more aggressive (less TPI) blades don't make as smooth of a cut and get used more for re-saw work.
