Featured Image USMC Veteran Erik Florip is a tool maker, a fine tool maker of hand saws, and marking gauges. "I started woodworking in 2012 while active duty in the US Marine Corps. Not long after getting the woodworking bug I started shopping for a handsaw to give dovetails a shot. I found a lot of high price options, being a hobbyist, I couldn’t justify spending a lot of money on a new handsaw. I opted for an old Disston found at an estate sale. I learned how to sharpen on this saw and was a good user after the restoration. After this I got the idea to try building my own saw…it wasn’t pretty but it worked. I was hooked on tool making." September 30, 20196 yr Popular Post Hello everyone, welcome to a new week. I made some sawdust/shavings on the weekend finally!!! Okay, it wasn't much, and mostly it was about practicing my nemesis: edge planing. But I also put the wheels on my router table and then tested a bit for making a cupboard door/drawer pull profile. Was so good to get in the garage and do something finally. My edge planing needs some serious practice. I either make a hump (low at either end), or I create a nice angle to one side. I can manage to correct it eventually, but as I kept going it would come back again one or the other. Ah well, good to practice and get better. Edited September 30, 20196 yr by 1fizgig
September 30, 20196 yr Monday! Trying to see through the fog. Didn't get much of anything done between the on Friday, and Sunday. Was hoping to catch a Sunday flea market, but it was cancelled due to the off/on every other hour we had. Hopefully they'll get another in before they close for the season Oct. 13. At least we didn't get what Montana experienced this past weekend.
September 30, 20196 yr Popular Post We had cold and snow, about 1" here in Montana! No shop time this weekend. I'll gladly share this stuff with Larry or anybody else that would like some.
September 30, 20196 yr Harry, the reports on the news here said some parts of your state got 48"! Seems a bit extreme to happen in Sept.
September 30, 20196 yr Popular Post Hey Steve G., Looks like you have that edge planing thing down. What are those interesting pieces you showed us? Between honeydos and naps, not much got done in the shop. Hope to get more done this week. Maybe put the new laser through it's paces.
September 30, 20196 yr Popular Post Finishing up stairs with carpet. Then on to the attic fold down door. Several factory bolts are broken or loose. And I want some sort of covering on the face side. Have yet to come up with solution.

I'm still trying to get caught up on the mowing, with just about every other day (mostly all day) Mother Nature sure isn't making that easy. ... I just remembered I have to work on the Log-Splitter also! ... 1 hour ago, Fred W. Hargis Jr said: Harry, the reports on the news here said some parts of your state got 48"! September 30, 20196 yr Popular Post Friend of mine who used to work in Yellowstone poste pic and said 5 foot there in less than 24 hours Working today to pay for ammo and tools . Tomorrow will be full tilt in shop getting turnings done for the season. Got a lot of ideas on the trip so maybe will get some done before the next trip. Oh I will be posting some more "whats it" tool finds. So watch for them. these pics probably belong in hand tools but here goes anyway since this was my Friday exploration. Hand planes to no end and price kinda up there too. These are only about half of the planes. Edited September 30, 20196 yr by Gerald
September 30, 20196 yr I can only read the price on the 606C (bottom pic), but it looks like $350. Wow!
September 30, 20196 yr Popular Post … With that many planes in one place it kind of looks like O'Hare Airport!

Hey Gene To be honest they were just scraps I was using to test the bit and get an idea of the profile. I also tested the bit at a couple of different heights to see how that changed the look. My wife and I have been talking about making a buffet and we were thinking of using this profile on the doors where they meet to give an illusion of space, like the gap we were planning between the drawers. Once I finish my Sketchup drawing I'll try to remember to share it so you can see what i meant.

October 2, 20196 yr I think I'm going to have to learn the back stroke! Another pretty much all nighter, that just doesn't want to quit.
October 2, 20196 yr Clear skies, another 90F expected. Don't care, I am off from work today. Finally back to my normal 5 day work week.
October 2, 20196 yr Just another dry hot day. City contracted workers out in the hot sun removing the old city sidewalk that's been here since the 1930's. The diamond saw to cut out the bad sections is really making some dust. And, I have serious apprehension about getting out there. Just walking to the mailbox I break into a sweat. And, a week ago Friday, I had to go to the ER for heat exhaustion. Getting too old to get out there. My will says yes, the old body says, No way!
