I had to keep the run short to allow the car to be parked in the car port. Thanks for the picture, @Cal mentioned about going wide on the one side rather than symmetrical and centered. Have to do some minor work to the siding to accommodate that design, no problem. @Cal also recommended plywood for the tops of the stairs. Gives me one piece to attached the carpet to, then bolt to the stringers, much easier to replace a single step or both later without major rebuild like now. Guys really appreciate the suggestions and pictures. Gunny

It was my intention to only show that pic to reflect the assembly (side view). The steps do need to be equally spaced. It has been 4 years since I built them. I'm sure that I did due diligence. No problem or issue here. Danl Whew, I am glad you built them correctly, the pictures look like everything is fine, The dimensions really threw me when I saw them. You did a good job them. Herb

Not sure from your picture what kind of bracing you used but I went with 2x4's to stiffen the entire thing. Today's work. Got the frame built and slathered a coat of primer on it. All end grain has been coated with caulk to seal it up as much as possible. Have to cut the 3/4 plywood tomorrow and edge band it with some 3/4 pine. I plan to cover the treads with outdoor carpet, wife has requested this specifically.
September 30, 20196 yr Author Once I had all the parts painted this went together quickly this afternoon. A weeks worth of work but it pays off in a nice sturdy set of steps that will last a long time. Only detail left is to install the carpet on the treads. Need to let the paint cure for a few days before installing.
September 30, 20196 yr Author Oh yes. Of course wants carpet on now. Has to wait a few days for paint to cure.

October 4, 20196 yr Author This part of the carport refurb is completed. Installed carpet on steps and was tested by both Wife and two cats. All approved. Moving on with some other minor details to complete refurb. None of which is woodworking at the moment. Thanks to all who offered suggestions and advice. I truly believe this project came out better having had that input.
October 4, 20196 yr Looks like the perfect place for an afternoon nap. I'll bring my pillow. Great job and looks really good.
