August 19, 20196 yr Popular Post We had to take down an old oak tree in our yard. My son-in-law harvested a lot of the wood for me. Mostly crotch wood, which are a bit small but I only have a Nova Comet II lathe. Anyhow, I rough turned a small crotch and put it into a bag with wood chips. About three months later I took it out and discovered a wide crack...no surprise there. Filled with resin and finished turning it. Sanded to about 12000 grit, hit it with some triple e and the final finish was Aussie oil. It measures about 4 inches across and about 3 inches deep.

At first, when the wood was still green, I really didn’t pay to much attention to that crack. But I roughed turned it and bagged it to let it dry for about three months. Then when I took it out to finish turning it I was very surprised. It turned out to make it look pretty nice. Thank you.
