August 28, 20196 yr I use a 2” bit that is made by infinity cutting tools specifically for planner sleds. It’s $100 and well worth it especially if you work with large slabs a lot. I can’t recommend it enough. My first sled was 3/4 MDF but the humidity and dampness in my shop caused to swell up a bit. My current one is 3/4 Baltic birch. I was going to line the inside with melamine but have found that a light rub with beeswax works great. I also found that a solid bit extension comes in handy for various thinknesses of lumber.

October 7, 20196 yr I'm now building my second router sled. My first sled fits on my band saw mill. It uses the track and the head of the saw for power movement. The one I'm building now will be 12 ft. long and 8 ft. wide. The first picture is the bit for my smaller sled. Second picture is what I'll using for my second sled.
October 12, 20196 yr Author I'm thinking the second one(what brand is it?) won't be in my less than $100 price point. Would love to see a picture of your sled setup. Thanks for your input.
October 12, 20196 yr Not a lot to show. I need to find another T rail for my second Y travel. Pictured is my X travel.
