August 8, 20196 yr Okay, so from my posts it’s obvious I’m a newb, with very limited knowledge, BUT... I have two routers, one the Bosch combination plunge base, stationary base, with the wooden handles, and a PC one. Haven’t actually plugged in the PC one yet.

Don't feel bad Artie, I don't even know where my 35+ year old Craftsman router is.

I suppose I need to purchase a plunge router with a 1/2" collette. Any suggestions? One is a Black and Decker, the other one is an old Craftsman. Bosch 1617 EVS with fixed and plunge base. I like mine very much. I used to get irritated with Norm on NYW because it seemed like he had a router for every bit. I had one for 20 years. I got the Bosch for a good deal at a WW Show. Then for some reasonable need, I bought a DeWalt trim router. Got a used Hitachi trim from a friend. Another friend gave me a Craftsman (which I would not have bought), then got a second Craftsman at an auction for $5. Having two was nice when I was using a dovetail jig that required alternating between straight and dovetail bits. The 2nd miter was also given to me by a furniture store customer who had gone out of business. He said he lost the spring on the blade guard trying to change the blade. He was the kind of guy who would buy new rather than fix (or find) something - maybe why he went broke. So I bought a new spring and when attempting to install it, the old one was there, just slipped off the stop. Got a second biscuit cutter when the first one was in for extended repair. Well, and I gave away my original one when the new models came out, and got a table top model for cheap used. Drills, I have a few, mostly $5 or less used. Still have the one I bought in 1974 and was my only one for 20+ years. Nice having dedicated bits in them (pocket hole, driver, countersink, etc.) Clamps, I don't want to count, but I'm guessing over 300. Still there are times when I need to stop and let glue dry because all the ones of a certain size or type are in use. Hard to do edge gluing with a 2" C-clamp.
August 8, 20196 yr Popular Post Dang! over 300 clamps??? I have 7 currently - wait'll I tell my wife how under-privileged I am!
August 8, 20196 yr I've got three Jorgensen's (one's the neighbors) three bar clamps (two are the neighbors) and a few c-clamps (again two are the neighbors). Might be why it takes me so long to do glue ups.

My only challenge is that because we are renters, moving them frequently would be a large chore, let alone having the decent space to store them. When we lost our house in NZ to the earthquake and moved to Oz we had to start again from scratch with no income and a need to de-stress. Consequently any remaining money we had from insurance etc was swallowed up in rebuilding life and re-entering the rental game. Worth it, and it's opened me up to getting into my woodworking journey for which I'm thankful, but yeah, it does mean limitations on how much gear I can reasonably have.

Didn't think I was staying in the house, or staying in the US really. To de-stress I took a job in Iraq. Yeah I know, weird, but then I was never one you could put in a box...

Maybe have 18 Bessey k body , 4 Woodcraft same style, 4 some other similar , 3 Jorgenson master carpenter, maybe 40 f style in various length, maybe 10 pipe clamps, 2 al bar clamps, and could be 10 squeeze clamps. Mostly gathering dust since I spend most time on lathe.
August 9, 20196 yr Never bothered to count my clamps. More than 50 but less than 300. Often, not enough, though.
