October 28, 2025Oct 28 Apparently I missed the most recent updates as well as one back in January. Amazing artistry and work Aaron. Admire your patience.
October 29, 2025Oct 29 Author Also steamed out a few dents that the base had acquired from just being in my shop and setting the piece off and on trying to work out what I'm going to do. No detailed pics but overall it works well. Edited October 29, 2025Oct 29 by aaronc
October 30, 2025Oct 30 Author I had a couple of mis-fires on what I was going to do on the front under the deer for this piece of bone to ride on. In the position I want it the bone leans slightly backward with not a lot of weight. I decided to just more or less match up the front plate with the other have of antler I used to fashion the rear. Rotary tools do most of the work but I rolled the edges with needle files to soften/clean them up. It also puts a small sheen on the edge and brings out the white along the border. Next, I will be cutting a channel for the front to ride in just as the rear has an indentation for that end to rest on. After that 'll get the bone supported on the antler plates at the correct angle and initially glued with some wood glue. The front plate will get some additional bracing on the back as that is the direction the bone will be leaning.
October 30, 2025Oct 30 Beautiful work, looks tedious though. I'm exhausted having looked at the pictures. 🤣
