July 4, 20197 yr Popular Post This is my model BB 88 for small items. This is for the small things I end up trying to remember where I put those last few items I don't want to get mixed up with others that are different buy won't work cause they are special... The area over the sink is kinda wasted until now. Not finished with all 88 lids screwed on for the bottles but all the nut and bolt places was closed today. I did build the roller to be lifted out so I can attach the lids later and besides I still need to drink more of the small size GA. This is only for the do it your selfers with lacking funds to go first class.... I do have room for the shelves back behind on the wall after I get finished with the thingy I do have an unusual arrangement for a ceiling so I had to make do with what I had to work with... I had to cut up some 20 foot 2x6"s I have used since I started building the go cart track in 1980 which I sure did cry for they were still perfectly straight and in great condition for being used so many times over the years..

July 5, 20197 yr Author Popular Post Well I got a pleasant surprise this morning. The lumber yard here in this little town had the screws and washers I needed for the BB GA 88 and I noticed I left out part of the letters I had assigned to this thingy in the first post... Something I have always done when buying small items like screws and washers and nuts and bolts is buy in bulk. You can save a bundle buying boxes at a time or if you are at Tractor supply, buy by the pound...Like if you only need say five or ten of any one item so you go ahead and buy in the little plastic sacks.. you are wasting your money and if you are young enough chances are you will still need lots of those same things later on...I always did and do.. The screws and washers are to secure the bottle caps to the unit. And that brings me to the washers. I only need one washer for each bottle cap but I like to install it with three screws so that means lots of drilling.. A simple jig using a small counter top drill press. I swing the table around so the drill bit is about 1/2" in on one side of the table and being left handed it gets swung around to the right side..Then I use another set of vise grips to hold the jig on to the table. The first thing I could find for the jig was a extra piece of a miter track I had left about 20 years ago when I built my router table...yes I save everything that was bought for the shop even the short small pieces of everything I ever bought since the beginning of time. Those are 4" Vise Grip brand pliers, which you probably can't buy anymore but are awfully handy..... There is no need to counter sink any holes for the drill bit to line up to for I keep my thumb against the side of the jig and it keeps the washer from trying to spin around and hurt myself. No slipping happened on all those three holes on each washer... but one hole was too close to the side and caused me to have to drill another beside the screwed up hole up but it does take 3 different repositioning of the Vise Grips spots on each washer which is the time killer. But after going to town and buying this stuff I was finished drilling the holes by 11. Oh by the way , the washers have to be small enough in diameter to not interfere with the bottle top when tightening it securely. Now I got to get busy and drink more GA for I need 88 bottles total..
July 5, 20197 yr Author Popular Post I forgot to add... When drilling metal it is important to use some kind of lubricant which in turn will make the drill bit last longer.....I use an automatic lubricator, kinda….I keep the oil can next to the drill press and after every few holes drilled I turn off the drill press, add a little oil to the top of the part of the bit that is showing under the chuck and that will keep a small amount of oil sliding down to the spot being drilled...this way it will last a few holes before needing another shot.. if I just add some oil where the hole is, I have to reach for the oil can more often....either way is a nuisance so you decide. I keep the rpm's way down for metal so I don't have to worry of getting an oily shower!
July 5, 20197 yr This could end up holding a lot of weight, but definitely a big space saver. Dimensions ?

Glad to see I am not alone in doing this or in my reason why. 1 hour ago, kmealy said: Oh I guess they don't make them any more Yeah they do, neighbor asked me if I wanted any. Turned that down, too small for what typically have in stock. 5 drawers that have two each dividers. That's just one of 4 cabinets I have in all. Cannot find the others at the moment. Took this BEFORE I filled it up.
July 6, 20197 yr Author Popular Post Yes they do Keith...My first roll around thingy like what I am building now was made with baby food jars. I started saving the jars in about 1962 when our first little one was born. It had 24 jars for the middle was a 3x3" square. That hung on the wall along with a few other things I made to hold parts and the folks that bought our first house made me leave all those with the house.. Hobby Lobby has the empty jars always for sale in different sizes but grocery stores sells a baby food jar full of baby food cheaper than Hobby Lobby's are being empty.....I did do some thinking about the baby food jars instead of the Gator Aid bottles but decided on the GA bottles. I used those glass jars maybe 12 years and never broke any...and I read where guys brake them regularly so go figure...… maybe butter fingers, huh. I forgot to mention the drill bits I used on this build is 2 different sizes and they both are number bit sizes. # 42 is a .093 and the number 29 is .136in size. A set is a #1 to #60. then the smallest size set is from # 60 to a #80 I use for drilling small holes for blades when doing inside cuts with the scroll saw so the hole will disappear as I am sawing. The smaller number is a larger size for the screw to slip through and the smaller bit drills the three holes for the screws... Then the larger number bit makes the hole for the screw and the way I go about deciding what bit is the correct hole size I hold a screw behind the drill bit and I want to see just the threads showing on each side of the drill bit.. this lets the threads hold in the wood without splitting the wood …...These screws are for sheet metal so the body is the same size all the way down to the tapered point.....and the holding side is flat. The size screw I am using is on the boxes in the picture as is the washers. For someone just starting out some of this might be remembered and you might remember you read it on Patriot Woodworker...
July 6, 20197 yr Great ideas. Thanks for posting this. Now you have me thinking. Have too many other projects right now to do in this heat. But, it would certainly make things much more efficient.
July 6, 20197 yr At least for this summer we know you will hydrated!! Word of caution on the Gatorade. Every one you drink you need to have 6-8 bottles of water. Unless you happen to like kidney stones. We had warnings everywhere in Iraq about watching water consumption with energy drinks, Gatorade Coke etc etc. Had couple dozen a year had to go home it was so bad. Myself I like them, wish I could drink that all day, but the kidney stones I am told are a come to Jesus moment I am going to pass on.
July 6, 20197 yr Author Popular Post Thanks for the warning. I guess stones added to my other ailments is not to my liking. The other thing I almost used was the baby food jars again, but I wouldn't throw away good food just for the jars. I know now why babies cry a lot after being forced to eat that stuff..
July 6, 20197 yr Popular Post Cool project Jess. If I were to use peanut butter jars instead of Gatorade, and it takes me about 3 weeks to go through the PB... and my cyphering is good... looks like I might have a loooong term project on my hands! Maybe I could talk the Mrs. into a few more peanut butter pies to speed the process up
July 6, 20197 yr The Junior size baby food jars, despite the name, are larger. I had a dozen or, so screwed to the bottom of a shelf in my old shop. like WBBN, hardware is in drawers now. The jar system was better. Easier to access.
July 6, 20197 yr Author Cal I too eat lots of PB and honey so if you have a Sams Club close by they have 2 48oz PB jars taped together and the honey comes 2 40oz sizes..and they are quite a bit cheaper than regular stores..seems like we always have an extra hid some where. And yes if its a plastic jar with a screw on lid they are saved to the shop
July 6, 20197 yr Author Woodbutcherbynight I think you should google does Gatoraid cause kidney stones... I just did and am relieved in what it said..
July 6, 20197 yr 7 hours ago, Smallpatch said: I just did and am relieved in what it said.. My Dad was drinking 5 a day with no water, Doctor's head exploded when he heard about it. If you have one and drink 6-8 bottles of water you should never have an issue. Can't tell you how many medics went nuts seeing guys chug those things. Then of course we had the idiots that used that muscle milk stuff, another kidney stone and other issues creator. I didn't use any of that and could bench 300lbs with ease. All natural.
