June 15, 20196 yr Popular Post Finished this box yesterday for a club challenge Saturday. Was going to do a twist all the way up but when I cut it in two They did not match. So will do two boxes . One has twist top and the next will be twist bottom.
June 16, 20196 yr Author Actually it is much simpler than it looks. 1. Turn the blank round 2. Use the tool rest to draw lines on the blank equally spaced lengthwise 3. now draw lines with lathe turning at usually 1 inch intervals. 4. This results in rectangles on the blank. so start at one corner and draw a line to the other going entirely thru a box diagonally will give you the lines for the twist. 5. Use a small saw to cut this line in each diagonal and then use a power carver or file to create the grooves. 6. Then sand the grooves . For this I use a piece of rubber abouth the size of your little finges and wrap sandpaper around thst. I have attached a demo handout of Dennis Leggitt . In the demo he used several different mehods to remove the wood. File, Micro plane (round), Arbortech , and power carver (like a Foredom). There is much more info in this than I just gave you such as names of different twists and more nomenclature and some drawings.General Twist Information by Dennis Leggett.pdfGeneral Twist Information by Dennis Leggett.pdf By the way this and many more demo handouts are on our club website under the the documents tab Handouts file.Magnolia Woodturners Edited June 16, 20196 yr by Gerald
