May 18, 20197 yr Popular Post The 75th Anniversary is almost here, and Saving Private Ryan is returning to the big screen to commemorate this very important event. One of the most memorable movies I have ever seen, and as my children grew I made sure they saw the movie as well. We'll go see this again, and this time on the big screen. The movie is returning this June 2nd through the 5th to theaters, see quote below and "Read More" to find out where it may be showing in your area. Quote One of the greatest cinematic achievements and arguably the most iconic war film ever made is heading back to the big screen over 20 years after it first stunned audiences around the world. May 18, 20197 yr I have yet to see the movie. I did buy the movie “The Monument Men” after one of the members here posted about it, I believe his Dad, Uncle, or Grandfather was in the real events the movie was based on. Haven’t had a chance to watch that one either. Me thinking it’s about time to take an afternoon off and watch me some movies!

May 18, 20197 yr It was an HBO special series. It was later released on tape and I believe DVD. The local library may have it for viewing. 15 minutes ago, Artie said: Wasn’t that a tv show? Many episodes? I loved watching WWII In Color, but we don’t get that channel any more.

Band of Brothers, became a common household name while it was airing on HBO. We never saw the original airing, no cable, but I did borrow a buddies DVD set when it came out and binge watched it and it was incredible.

Once while watching an old TV series presented by Walter Cronkite, he pointed out himself in some newsreel battle footage. He was very proud of his service to our country but never flaunted it- other than the G.I. haircut he always had . We had his name listed at the World War II memorial in Washington D.C. but he passed away a few months before the monument was opened to the public.
May 18, 20197 yr I've seen Saving Private Ryan twice. The first time I noticed several of the older guys get up and leave in that intense first half-hour. Many folks had watery eyes. I've seen the Band of Brothers series at least 3 times. Years ago, there was a weekly series called "Platoon", (I think, but not the movie), that followed the every day reality of an infantry squad in VN. No Hollywood sensationalism. Very realistic.

May 23, 20197 yr When I started my apprenticeship at the Navy base, I worked with 4 of the men who served in those battles. One of them had a metal plate in his head. They didn't talk much about it. One of them mentioned a couple of places in France. But, if you want to really see stuff about that war, you should get a series of "The World at War". The cruelty is amazing.
