April 26, 20197 yr This looks like a very efficient method of burning out a stump. I am going to do this to a few that I have made in the past couple of weeks.
April 26, 20197 yr Author So if I walk back into my shop after I’ve sprayed everything down and said “Tools of the woodshop. I have returned”. Think my wife would get the reference or way over her head. Or maybe before I start I should tell her “A good plan violently executed right now is far better than a perfect plan executed next week”. Either way my wife is not into military history so I doubt she would get either one.

Anything involving fire is a great idea in my newbi opinion. But then again most of my friends rom the army seem to have a thing for lighting things on fire. Especially when dum dum juice is flowing.
April 26, 20197 yr Interesting video and method but.....with that wind and no cleared area around it I'm glad he's not my neighbor. I sit on 10 acres of mostly wooded land and the 156 acres around me are the same. While it may be efficient I don't see or hear any preventative warnings of things to or not to do. This fella isn't in California is he? Seriously, I'll still wait until I have a number of stumps to deal with and rent a stump grinder. We usually do this when the neighbors and myself have enough to keep us busy for the weekend. Haven't burned anything down yet and can sleep like a baby. Just saying, different strokes for different folks. Be safe out there fellow woodworkers. Edited April 26, 20197 yr by sreilly24590
April 26, 20197 yr Interesting Video. We are not allowed open burning here except for a BQ. Infact no wood stoves or fire places either. The good old days of land clearing is long gone. That guy missed the chance for hotdogs and marshmellows. Herb
April 27, 20197 yr I agree about the safety issues. In the Navy, we were sent to firefighting school each year as we had to be vigilant for both the ship and the planes. Life was the most valuable, so we had to be sure to save the planes and ships to ensure we got close to shore. So, I am a safety first person because of 4 years of training. I noticed in the video that he had dry leaves and other twigs around and was concerned about them catching fire, but I suppose with the wind, the sparks blew out quickly. Still, I would have had a charge water hose near by and I would have raked the area clean before starting the fire. He was lucky. And, like you, here in the city, you can have a fire only if it is in a container, but out in the country, not so much protection. Of course, if the fire gets out of hand, then they give you a nice citation.
April 27, 20197 yr no real eye protection no hearing protection no chaps probably no steel toe shoes/boots no gloves where do you want to go with safety?
