Featured Image Canoes of the First Nations of the Pacific Northwest: Don's Maps is a website I frequent often, weekly if not several times a week, this man has traveled! And he has some wonderful images and research of things worldly. The canoe below was carved from a single cedar log. See the rest of the story here at https://www.donsmaps.com/canoesnwc.html Back to Don's website, his work is completely open source, free to share and distribute at will to all parties to use and I use it often for images and research for our wiki. I love sites like this where a person has put a ton of work into it, and does not feel the need to copyright everything, the spirit of the internet is sharing, collaboration, and learning and Don's Maps has captured that spirit in this open source project. April 8, 20197 yr Popular Post Not much happening here in Bowling Green, KY except for it raining all night and it should continue throughout the day. Been down for the most part for the past week as my lower back got tweaked. Going into the "Physical Therapist" this afternoon to start rehabilitation. I have not been doing much of anything except for being in the recliner alternating cold/heat packs and watching TV.

April 8, 20197 yr Popular Post This week I got drafted into “Community Service”. In the Election Office in our courthouse, there are large precinct maps. Since I’m on the local Election Board I volunteered to build frames for said maps. Hopefully, they’ll look better than the duct tape that’s holding them up now.
April 8, 20197 yr Popular Post Monday? About says it all....wake me up when Tuesday gets here.. Pushstick? gave up trying to buy one.. Work in progress....5mm plywood, old saw handle, ugly bolts..
April 8, 20197 yr Will be working on the offering plates for a while. Progress is there are nine rough turned and maybe 5 of those will make the cut. Did a test of stain color on Saturday and learned that I need to sand better and to a higher grit to eliminate lines and get a even color. Oil based stains is something we do not do much of in turning, but cannot say I liked them even in flatwork.
April 8, 20197 yr More than a little flattered to be included as a "featured topic" here. Thank you. Steve
April 9, 20197 yr Popular Post Work continues on finishing a couple of drawers. My apprentice wanted to know why we don't use OSB for drawers. Maybe because it looks like tree barf? So in the spirit of learning I cut him loose and he made two sides for a drawer. Sure I will replace it later but for now hey why not? After his first coat of paint he says, "Gunny, this stuff sucks trying to coat it in paint. It's like a sponge!!" Yup, but hey now he knows, and nobody except for the fashion police got hurt.

April 9, 20197 yr Found some scrap mahogany. Think I'll make an open topped box for Champagne as an anniversary gift to our son and wife. Gonna try to put a laminated maple, bent wood bail on it.
April 10, 20197 yr Ron, happy belated birthday. I hope it was a very good one. Keep having them. The only real productive thing done this weekend was cleaning off the fence between us and our deceased neighbor. Now, that she can't see what I am doing, it got a good cleaning and this didn't anger her. It looks great. And, I'm happy about that.
