Zero Clearance Insert For Crosscut Sled

And looking for an excuse to use our woodworking tools and make some sawdust.

Your approach sounds good.  I would suggest you make a t insert to do this, fancy yes but gives the middle more meat.  The dado stack idea is sound.  I don't use this method myself I have a twin TS set up with one side set for dado work specifically.  I have a ZCI on the TS so I use this jig as a cross cut sled.  Sorry the pic is for the single blade, too lazy to go and make another pic of the one used for dado's.  Granted not much use BUT ready when needed and less set up time.

Nothing wrong with some garage engineering.  Come up with something new.  You may like it, you may say what was I thinking.  Don't know until you give it a try.

Plenty of people told me mating two TS together would never work.  See below, it does and works well.

NO!  We need a set of tires for the TPW jet after SOMEONE made snow angels.

Nope! However, you can use the corporate jet on November 3rd. :throbbinghead:

That date is a no go. It'll still be in retrofit. Waiting on Stick and WBBN to decide on a color scheme.:throbbinghead:

Please save that date...that was my target date for launching my crosscut sled.  Guaranteed to give you a chuckle.

Gene, Stick is NOT allowed to pick the color scheme. WBBN, maybe, but not Stick! :BugEyeSmiley:

Nice wheels. But, the paint scheme could use some work. Maybe Dave and his paint pen?

Had nothing to do with the paint scheme.  Dave bought the thing at some airshow last month.  Said he got a deal, and got another 5% with his Senior Discount.

Got it built....used designs and build techniques from several different plans.  It measures 27" (front to back) X 30" (side to side).  It's not too heavy but I have seen lots of designs that have cut-outs and curves to lighten the sled and also provide hand holds for putting it on and taking it off the saw.  I'm trying to decide where to put the curves and cutouts.  Suggestions?

Be sure to factor in where and how you will store this.  Cut outs would be best served if they aided in working with it and storing it.  Mine sit inside drawers right below switch side of TS.  Open drawer grab unit and you are ready to go.  My larger one is not so accessible.  It is across the shop but the size was made for where I store it, for the moment anyway.  Was my first one, learned a lot since then.

@Bearpaw gave me tips as I went.  Been a few years since first one.  He was right though, I should have started using one much earlier.

Stay tuned....just need to put on the blade guard.  I didn't bother with the recessed zero clearance insert.
