March 23, 20197 yr Popular Post So, I did a thing... I learned how to miter cut trim so it actually fits!!! Of course, I got so excited I forgot to take pics at the shop. However, I did get pictures of my most recent river table top (will be an end table). Originally I had planned to oil the wood and wax the entire top... however, the tung oil raised the grains of the wood (oak? I don't know) so the wax wouldn't shine up right... so I sanded it all down, sanded the wood flat (60, 80, 120, 220). I put a seal coat of epoxy resin on it, will do another seal coat and then a flood coat. It already looks MUCH better than it did before I changed route. And yes... I'm having way too much fun with something that is WAY too expensive.
March 23, 20197 yr Author Popular Post Two different mixes of epoxy resin (ER). The dark grey is ER with black metallic mica powder. The white is ER with white acrylic paint and silver metallic mica powder. Poured the dark, mixed the light and poured it in before combining them (stirring, swirling, etc.)

March 24, 20197 yr Very nice, Quite unique. Do you form the pattern or is this the random way the different colors react? They seen too uniform to be random is why I ask. Herb
March 24, 20197 yr Very cool Doc. I do hope you will post up a pic of the completed table. How deep is the epoxy on this piece? Did you just rout out a shallow area for the riverbed and simply pour in and stir the two batches of epoxy?
March 24, 20197 yr Popular Post Well, it seems you have been busy, since you haven't been here to keep us in line...off learning new things, leaving some of us in the dust...good for you! KUDOS. Fantastic job, Ma, the table is great. I LIKE it. Just remember, the story is no good without pictures. Keep them coming, Doc.

Don't know @Cal but the two boards appear to match each other. Like you though I'm curious how @MaDeuce kept everything in place for the epoxy pour. Great looking piece. March 25, 20197 yr Beautiful table Doc. Thanks for sharing. Already been said, but we need pictures when done so indulge us please. I don't get out much. March 25, 20197 yr That is awesome! I've looked longingly at several posts on resin-filled objects like that, and I'm jealous of your obvious skill. Thanks for showing how you're working on such a great piece. Look forward to more pics as you complete it. I don't have the room or the money to attempt such a thing, and at the moment I feel I'd need to do a lot more research just to get comfortable with the whole process.

I used the bandsaw to cut a wavy pattern through a single board. On 3/24/2019 at 8:34 AM, DuckSoup said: Like you though I'm curious how @MaDeuce kept everything in place for the epoxy pour. Great looking piece. I had to build a frame, put packing tape on each piece of wood for the frame so the epoxy doesn't stick. I put the pieces down into the frame, placed blocks on top of them and used clamps to keep them in place (and help prevent the epoxy from running under... which doesn't always work). Once it sets, I removed the frame, then start sanding and sanding and sanding and sanding and sanding lol
