March 9, 20197 yr Popular Post Estate Sale this morning...LONG drive up to Mt. Victory, OH....a JET jointer...was already sold...but.. Rather lonely looking...spent a dollar bill....and, like most other vintage planes.. Paint splatters...pretty blue ones. Why another block plane? Why to clean up any saw marks left by the rest of the $21 I spent this morning.. To replace the all metal one from Sears that I broke the guard on....even weighs about the same.. Might get a little use out of this one...
March 9, 20197 yr I have a little plane just like that! Ran my old chrome Craftsman "skill saw" until sparks, smoke and fire consumed it.

March 9, 20197 yr Author Need to find out what that red button is, between the handle, and the blade housing....not part of the depth or tilt..they have a red knob of their own..
March 9, 20197 yr Author Duh.....just checked...cleaned that spot off a bit better, found a label...spindle lock Thank you! Going to the shop after a bit...and look for a spare spindle wrench....as this saw is missing one. Didn't see it laying around there, either...
March 9, 20197 yr Author Ok...Found the wrench to change the blade on the "new" saw....along with another strange looking tool....E.C. Stearns & Co. No. 85 Ok, now, I have to go and research THAT one...supposed to be the same as a Stanley No. 95? Wrench fits....BTW....haven't started on the block plane..yet....maybe tomorrow on that one?
March 10, 20197 yr Sweet score. Is the block plane a Craftsman? The "machine green" paint in the body was pretty exclusive to them from the early 60's to mid 80's. Any individual part on it is worth more than a dollar/ea. I just saw an identical one at a local flea market a couple weeks back...$7.95 and it was nowhere that nice nor with any remnant of a decal. It does look like the decal is Defiance??? One I have similar that is a Defiance has a grey body??? Also was a 75 yr Anniversary Craftsman...looked like it had been dragged to the flea market by the cord...$27.50. Yours was made by Skil when Skil was still making pretty good quality DIY tools...big difference, I don't think yours has the trigger lock safety button which is a positive IMO. Craftsman used a handle...Skil had kind of a knob molded into the upper body. Base shoe plate doesn't look scratched or any rust on top. You did good.
