Welcome,  I’m still in the receiving advice stage, and not in the dispensing of advice stage (though there are plenty here good at the dispensing. You and your work look like you’re in the dispensing stage) Howdy.

I think the most noticeable difference from a distance with the goldfinch is the whole bird appears yellow with the exception of the wings.

Welcome aboard doublej. Your photos speak for themselves. Hope you'll stay on board to join the other master craftsmen who have helped the wanabees like myself. The Patriot Woodworker forums are the friendliest anywhere. Friendly conversation and master craftsmanship at it's best.

This is just added for visual reference for those that maybe have never seen a goldfinch.

I attempted to get the image to show in the post but it refuses to do so.

Welcome to the site, you'll like it here. You have some great looking projects and I love that swing. My late father-in-law gave me some old cherry and I made a large porch swing similar to yours. I was enjoyed many years on our porch. When we moved to CO we didn't have a porch for it and put up a frame for it.........The sun out here is so wicked that it ate the finish off in one year. Twice. I ended up covering that beautiful Cherry with porch paint and that only lasts 3 years.

Hi Ron, the finish was a problem here also, mine didn't last and I ended up trying cedar wood deck stain and it has lasted the longest.

Our sun in AZ is pretty wicked also. We used Sikkins Cetol on the redwood deck and railings about 10 years ago. We've only had to renew it once. That second coat has lasted 7 years. Our deck furniture is metal but, I'd think Sikkins would work well on wood furniture, too.

Welcome aboard and love your work!

I am strictly a wood turner myself, so I of course had a keen interest in the bowl.

Hi Gene, This porch swing I also used the Sikkins Cetol and the finish still looks as well as first applied.
