October 19, 20187 yr Popular Post In 2018 our church choir made a pilgrimage to Italy and actually had to opportunity to sing at a Papal Mass (means attended by the Pope). We also sang at several other basilicas and even held a concert for the people of Rome. It was a most rewarding experience. While there, we had several professional pictures taken, but they were kind of a weird size and my wife and I could not find an appropriate frame to display these pictures - so I decided to make one myself out of a slab of Buckeye I had, incorporating my chip-carving. Here is the start - pretty much cut to size, just playing with what I will carve into the face of the frame: Edited October 19, 20187 yr by IrishWoodCarver
October 19, 20187 yr Will be a perfect frame for the picture. A great story and such an honor for the group.

LOL there was a story about a week ago, some artist known as "banksy" had a framed picture auctioned for 1.4M, and as the hammer was brought down, the picture was shredded by a built in shredder and partly came out the bottom of the frame.

Thanks...I missed that one. Trying to minimize watching news...weather forecasts are depressing enough.
October 20, 20187 yr Author Popular Post Finished the carving portion of the picture frame - here are a few pictures along the way - and a final product. Now onto sanding, carving cleanup, assemply and staining. I think I am going to try biscuits on the corners - rather large frame - would rather not just glue and pin - thoughts??
October 20, 20187 yr i concur with the biscuits. i've done likewise on frames that are wide enough. i've also used large staples on the back side too. very nice carving.
October 21, 20187 yr Biscuits will help with your alignment and give it some strength in the corners...of course you could edge spline it with contrasting wood if you were inclined. BTW...great pictures too!! Edited October 21, 20187 yr by Grandpadave52
October 24, 20187 yr Author Popular Post Stain applied to carved areas, now waiting for it to dry before 2 or 3 more clear top coats. Even though I used a conditioner prior to staining, I did not get an even stain - maybe that is just how Buckeye looks stained. Bottom line - wife loves it like that - so I guess all is good - LOL! Of course I told her I planned for it to look like that!! :) -
October 25, 20187 yr Perfect Irish! The frame & the picture compliment each other to the fullest. The stain tone makes the picture colors very vivid...almost 3D. VERY nicely done.
October 25, 20187 yr Re: the stain. I concur with your wife. It's a fantastic job, all the way around.
