Popular Post John Morris Posted October 15, 2018 Popular Post Report Posted October 15, 2018 Good Monday Morning! Good Monday morning Patriot Woodworkers! What did you get done over the weekend, and what have you planned for the week ahead! Inquiring minds want to know. Please tell us what's happening in your shops, your life, and any events going on with you. Thank you for being here folks! Patriot News Operation Ward 57 has chosen us again to Adopt a Warrior Family for the Holidays. Now we wait, to find out who our new family is. Latest Wiki Entries Straight from a wonderful book about "American Woods", by Shelley E. Schoonover, published in 1951, we are moving her out of print, out of copyright contents over to our wiki. There will be two categories for the trees of North America, The Softwoods, and The Hardwoods. See the latest entries at the links below. Balsam Fir Balsam Fir, one of the ten firs native to the United States, is a medium-sized and short-lived tree but an important one, nonetheless, in both the United States and Canada. Read more... Grand Fir The Grand Fir is a stately tree 80 to 125 feet high and one and one half to two and one-half feet in diameter. On rich bottom lands it may reach 200 to 250 feet in height and three to four feet in diameter. Read more... White Fir White Fir, so called because of the ashy hue of its bark, is one of ten native firs in the United States. It is considered the most important. It is a massive, low-branched, heavily-foliaged tree, 100 to 150 feet high with a diameter of 20 to 40 inches. Read more... State Trees Updated with links back to trees within the wiki. New Members None! But you can help us change that, by inviting your friends to our little corner of paradise here at The Patriot Woodworker. Thank you! Image of the week It's not often (actually never have) featured one of my own images here in this section, but I thought I'd share a neat picture I took with just my cell phone. I recently purchased a Stanley No. 49 Auger Depth Stop, and I took a couple pictures of it in action, and one of them I thought was just really neat, very clear, with the background items blurred out a little to bring focus to the foreground. I was impressed with my Motorola cell phone camera, I have had this cell phone for about 4 years and I am just now learning about all the imaging capabilities it has. Thanks for viewing! p_toad, DuckSoup, tomp and 5 others 7 1 Quote
Popular Post Ron Dudelston Posted October 15, 2018 Popular Post Report Posted October 15, 2018 Now that the farmhouse table is gone, I begin juggling jobs. Monday I’ll finish 3 jewelry boxes for a show in early November, Tuesday and Wednesday I’ll throw together a “primitive” lamp stand for a friend. Thursday I start a cabinet/bookcase that has been in the wings for way too long. Grandpadave52, p_toad, steven newman and 2 others 5 Quote

Popular Post John Moody Posted October 15, 2018 Popular Post Report Posted October 15, 2018 Crazy week for us and just couldn’t seem to get things in the right quadrant. Messed up a tire, had to buy a whole set and couldn’t get them installed till Saturday at 1:00. Family in from out of town so there is no schedule which is fine. Off today so trying to get some projects finished. using the CNC to cut the mortise for the upright pieces. This will be a display to hold three AR rifles. The upright pieces fit into the mag well and the rifles will be displayed horizontally. Then everywhere we look there are Cornhole boards. Got an order Saturday for four more sets so this will be cornhole week. Have a great week, im off to the shop. steven newman, HARO50, Harry Brink and 5 others 8 Quote
HandyDan Posted October 15, 2018 Report Posted October 15, 2018 Been working at changing the florescent light over to L.E.D. Have a few more to do. They are brighter but the best part is there is no hum. Need to get the leaf collector on the back of the mower too. p_toad, Cal, DuckSoup and 1 other 4 Quote

I'm in the market for 8 footers. Need 8 of 'em. Mine are getting a little dark on the ends. lew, Cal and p_toad 3 Quote
Popular Post Allen Worsham Posted October 15, 2018 Popular Post Report Posted October 15, 2018 We have been busy working on getting stuff done in our new home in Bowling Green KY. We still do not have our refrigerator or washer & dryer, but those should be delivered by the end of the week. Been putting together various pieces of furniture and working on the master bedroom wire rack closet organizer. Still no cable for TV and Internet as the cable company has not gotten it wired yet. Good thing we have unlimited data on our Verizon phones and there is wi-fi in various restaurants. We also have no street lights on our street as it will take another month or so for the city to catch up. So we are tired but are getting things squared away as much as possible. Cheaper to buy a cheap 4 foot fixture at walmart and take the ballast out and use LED lights in it. I usually pay between 11 and 13 dollars for the no ballast lights in 2400 lumen and 4000K color temperature. Have most of the shop rearrange done. Now to finish the new drawer unit for lathe tools and get some turning done. lew, HARO50 and Cal 3 Quote

I'm in the market for 8 footers. Need 8 of 'em. Mine are getting a little dark on the ends. I have all four footers. The Home Depot had the bulbs in stock at $12.95 each bulb and no shipping since in store stock. They are direct wire and the ballast is eliminated. Comes with instructions which amounts to removing the ballast and the wires from one end of the bulbs and running a hot and neutral to the other end. The bulbs are marked which end goes to the wired side. The bulbs also come with new tombstone ends which need to be used if replacing T8 bulbs. The T8 tombstone ends are shunted but the T12 are not so the T12 do not need replaced. Doesn't take long to do and I love the results. The store SKU# is 1001716707 for the bulbs. Below is a link to the bulbs used. https://www.homedepot.com/p/toggled-48-in-16-Watt-Daylight-T8-Dimmable-Linear-LED-Tube-Light-Bulb-D416-50311/206723425?keyword=853889005853&semanticToken=200300000+++>++++st%3A{853889005853}%3Ast++cnn%3A{0%3A0}+cnr%3A{8%3A0}+cnb%3A{9%3A0}++853889005853+{productkey}+qu%3A{853889005853}+oos%3A{0%3A1} Edited October 15, 2018 by HandyDan Cal, Grandpadave52, lew and 1 other 2 2 Quote
Dadio Posted October 15, 2018 Report Posted October 15, 2018 I get my 48" ones from the same place Gerald does, but seems there is a price difference. https://www.earthled.com/collections/f96-led-t8-t12-fluorescent-replacement-tube-light The ones I get you have a choice of ballast rewiring or not. I just replace them W/O re wiring the ballast. Except a couple where the ballast was dead, I had to rewire. just plug and play. Herb Cal and lew 2 Quote

That also affects the price. @Dadio Your bulb is 3900 lumen and almost twice the brightness of mine . Seems the price goes up rapidly with lumen increases Cal 1 Quote

Dadio Posted October 15, 2018 Report Posted October 15, 2018 (edited) @Gerald The ones I posted a link for were the 8' for Gene, the ones I bought were these 4' plug and Play ones: https://www.earthled.com/collections/t8-t12-led-fluorescent-tube-lights-compatible-with-magnetic-and-electronic-ballasts Only when I bought them a year ago they were $8.44 ea/100, I have the old florescent in there now and as they or the ballast burn out, I can just replace them. Already have replaced about 8 bulbs. I have 78 bulbs in the shop. Herb Edited October 15, 2018 by Dadio Cal 1 Quote
