Well, I'm finding my way around this site.  I was fortunate in 2010 to survive a near death heart attack.  Ended my working career and I retired even though I was not yet 65.  I wanted to stay busy, so I began painting (art) and did some woodworking.  I made a large rocking horse out of sapele using only a scroll saw.  Should have had a bandsaw, but didn't at the time, so it was a little difficult with 2" thick sapele.  Now, I have my own little man cave (shed) to use as a workshop.  I am eternally thankful each and every day I am active above the ground.

Today, I am working my way toward being able to post a few pictures to share.  My wife works and has the cell phone on which reside the pics.  So, I am patiently waiting for her to get home and transfer the pics to me.  I just finished transferring a pattern for a Tiki mask to a 2" thick Douglas Fir board that I shaped the face to appear as a slice of a pole, post, tree?  It is about 12" long and 10" wide.

But before I can start carving that, I need to work on the gecko carvings for a wall hanging to be given to my daughter Liz (often lovingly called Lizard) - Hence, the reason for the geckos!  The Tiki mask will be a wall hanging for my Son-in-Law's birthday in late November.   The next carving will be a single Cala lily for my mother-in-law's birthday in January.  She will be 84.

I look forward to spending time on this site to share and to learn new things.  Thank you all for your warm welcomes.

beat up over???

the boss has spoken:

one cold frame coming up.

have a leftover window from the old greenhouse (have several, but only need one presently), approx 18x48.

so i go lumber shopping yesterday at the Homey, some 1x8s please.  knotty pine is fine, no need for clear pine.

oh my.

8 foot long 1x8 = $14+

and we need 3 for the project.  gulp.

"dear, how bad do you want a cold frame?"

grab them and bring them home.  will work on that next, later today and maybe tomorrow.  these better be really cool plants we're going to raise.

at least we don't have to pay to send them to college!

lumber is not cheap.  even cheap lumber isn't cheap!
