I have a lot of different "projects" on tap for this weekend.

I started to tear down a swimming pool/garden deck this week.  It has outlived its usefulness and will be recycled into other things.  Yesterday the vinyl siding guy came to look over what will be required after the deck is removed, I will need to remove all the existing siding on the back side of the garage.  I had already figured this to be the case - now I know it and will start to do my part.  I might get some time into this project over the weekend.  More on that later.

Saturday, this morning I want to go look for a couple suitable pallets to recycle, I need to do a few picture/mirror frames.  If the pallets are available I will be working on those this afternoon while the UGA-Mizzo game is on the shop tv.  Also today I have a pic frame to stain and I am experimenting with a new mirror design.

This evening we have a wedding to attend.  I made a mirror and frame for this occasion about a month ago.

SWMBO wants to have a yard sale next weekend.  I will likely spend a good bit of tomorrow gathering up surplus stuff and preparing for that:(  Not my favorite thing to do, I don't even like to go to them...

It's SHOWTIME!  After 3 months of Saturdays and 8 days of late evenings, the stage construction for Shrek is done.  First show last evening, two on Saturday, and one on Sunday, then the blitz to disassemble, load on a truck and haul back to the workshop.

Keith, you all did a great job on that set! Wonderful!

I can completely relate to what you are and have gone through with these sets, years ago, many years ago, I worked for Sea World, I started out in the Creative Arts department, and we built sets for the park, all the shows had back drops and sets, and we built them, the sets were a combination of wood and fiberglass, and canvas, and man, what a job, always a challenge somewhere! But it was pretty fun work, to get paid for.

Those sets you all made, are very nice, wonderful colors and just the right amount of detail for the audience, without going overboard on the detail.

Thanks Stick.  I have photos of the process and intend to do a "how-to" one day soon.

In a nutshell, though, I create a design (or find one on the inter-tubes); reverse the image and cut a vinyl decal.  This decal is applied to the back of the mirror and then sandblasted and painted.

To the silver backing???

do you sand blast of the exposed silver???

paint what???

I think I'm missing something...

Ahhh... back home.

Spent last week hunting with Dad.

I got two deer on my first day of hunting, filling both tags. Dad got an antelope on opening day of that season.

Freezer is full.

Various chores this week, have an idea for a project in a few weeks. Might end up a trade for a silver bracelet from a jeweler friend.

No Stick, you are not missing anything.  The reversed decal is applied to the silver backing with the exposed silver sandblasted away leaving a clear design which is then painted.  In this part of the process, technique is everything.  Like CNC work, most of the process is spent on the computer designing and refining the design; next is setting up the project for actual cutting (or in this case sandblasting).  Time in the sb cabinet is negligible and finishing is finishing!

You've got the process down pretty well Cal. Very nicely done and a great, unique and very personal gift. They should be very pleased with it.
