June 22, 20188 yr Guys, I got myself a used one of these and was wondering if anyone had one that might have some insights on setup and so forth. I bought at a very fair price and it's in real good condition. Thanks for any input, Pat
June 22, 20188 yr Congrats Pat on the new "family" member...can't help you on tips/techniques etc. but if you haven't already, check out You-Tube (just search Leigh D4)...lots of videos out there. Also, check Leigh's site for some instructional videos too. Good luck with the new toy and BTW, we'll need pictures too.

June 22, 20188 yr If you have the manual, go through and do the set up all over again. The jig is one of the more difficult to use and having it exact from the getgo will make everything else a lot better. If you do't have the manual, do what was said above and get one, they are the standard for the ways manuals should be written/illustrated.
June 22, 20188 yr Pat, just looked on the link I provided earlier...looks like you can download a D4 manual (PDF) as well as others HERE Appears each chapter is an individual download, plus Addendum & Appendix...Technical bulletins are available too depending on exactly what accessories came with yours.
June 23, 20188 yr Author Good morning guys, I do have the book and a vhs tape which I have to dig out an old vcr to watch. Was hoping someone owned one and could give specific trouble spots and what to fine tune to get it operational sooner. Appreciate the help, Pat
June 23, 20188 yr To me, it's very hard to get going "sooner" with the D4. Even after I've used it a fair amount I still have to pull out the manual every time I set it up. One thing that seems to come up more often than maybe some of the other is that the bushing for the router has to be perfectly concentric around the bit. Having a way to check that (and the ability to adjust it, my old 690 was not easy to adjust) will help ensure perfect DT joints.

June 24, 20188 yr No PHD here either. It's a tough nut to crack but once you get it you'll get great results every time. Read the book, watch some videos and use a bunch of scrap for trial and error.

June 25, 20188 yr Y'all are just too funny. My PHd is in Pretty Hard to Do. But even when some go to the burn pile I go to NGU (Never Give Up) and sometime rescue that item for another idea.
