June 1, 20188 yr Popular Post Well gang, we are ushering in a new month as June is upon us. I trust your holiday shortened week has treated you well. As many of you already know, last Sunday was race day for my son and I as we sweltered in the 92 degree heat with 300,000 of my closest friends. One of the many traditions at the Indy 500 during the pre-race ceremonies is the blowing of taps to pay honor to those who gave their lives fighting for this country. Just across the track from us is the infamous "Snake Pit" where 30,000 highly intoxicated people listen to rack music instead of watch the race. Interestingly, during the pre-race festivities all music stopped but there was still lots of crowd noise. However, when taps were blown the entire speedway was stone silent. You could hear absolutely nothing and it was one of those solemn moments I'll never forget. My week has been light as I played lifeguard in our pool for the grand-kids but I did manage to get a good start on three pistol display cases. One cherry, one oak and a walnut. Tomorrow I've volunteered to help my son build a 12 X 16 shed. So, Patriot Woodworkers, what's on your weekend agenda?
June 1, 20188 yr Transportation director duties shuffling people to/from events/work alterations being down a vehicle. Stopped by the Truck Hospital to visit the F-150 early this AM...probably will be in ICU most of next week; reserved a rental to be PU'd later this PM. With nearly 3" of rain the past two days, the grass is no longer brown & dormant, so time for mowing to restart. I have been doing some tool re-furbing the past few days and hopefully a little more this weekend; also need to get the new (to me) air compressor converted from gas motor to electric while temps are below 90o+. What-ever all, y'all have planned, be safe. Accidents lurk during hot, balmy weather too.

Not sure what happened Ron...doubled + what we had all month...we had missed most every other rain. We were almost dead center in the depression so once rain started it just kept coming. At least the ground is softer than the black-top road now.
June 1, 20188 yr Popular Post Hmmm...as little as I can get away with......and even less if they let me... Table needs done.....nice excuse to hide in the shop....

Picked up a little over 1/2" in about 20 minutes....famine or feast...never any moderation anymore. Edited June 1, 20188 yr by Grandpadave52

June 2, 20188 yr Got the tissue boxes finished and stained. When that dries the lacquer will go on. Started reorganizing a wall above my bench. It had been added to haphazardly and was just not working. Creating a carving and burning area with leg hole to sit.
June 2, 20188 yr Interesting week for me. Monday was a holiday, so no work. Worked Tuesday, Wednesday I meet my sister and dad in Roseburg for his memory doctor appointment (he is still progressing, but can stay in his home with some help), worked Thursday and took Friday off. Went to the rodeo with my wife Thursday and Friday nights, last night is tonight - Vetreans night (always a nice night). I have mainly done catchup chores yesterday and today. Maybe get in the shop tomorrow. Wife flies out on Monday at 5 am for training in central CA, flies back on Friday.
June 3, 20188 yr Popular Post Went to the furniture bank this morning for setting up some jigs and doing our "cubbies" a 2'x3' six compartment storage unit designed as a quick, easy, and inexpensive alternative to dressers. Then in an hour 4 of us (well 3 because one did not do much), cut out parts for 24 tables. I did the inaugural cutting on a panel saw. I think I'm in love. ❤️️ It sure beats hoisting those 4x8 panels at about 100 lbs up and wrestling through the table saw. Before I knew it we had four sheets of melamine cut out. I'll have to post some photos of the new workspace.
June 3, 20188 yr Made a end table for the camper to put between the chairs. Made out of red oak. Just have to put finish on it yet. Also working to put some shelves to put in the camper. Got them glued up tonight.
June 3, 20188 yr Our WW club meeting was Thursday evening, and I did a presentation on the router table drawers I made, plus another one I am going to post here in a couple of days, and of the holly planter. We met in the new location for the Tool Library they have a lot of fixing up to do and then move in all the tools. Herb Edited June 3, 20188 yr by Dadio

Thank you Dave. Believe it or not. No treats were even offered. Maybe that's why they have been ignoring me the rest of the day. 6 hours ago, Dadio said: That is purtty. Good job, too. And the table looks just Ok compared to the dogs. That's the only reason that I put the dogs in the picture to make the table look better!!!
