March 8, 20188 yr Popular Post I have a soft spot for awls, ice picks and pin vises. Seems I can't pass one up when I see it at a sale. It does have to be reasonably priced though. If the tip needs replaced in a pin vise I found auto brake spring links can be reworked for use as seen in the upper right corned. The end from a long stemmed spring will work too. Get the Dremmel out, cut it to length, chuck it in the drill and sharpen it on the belt sander. For the Exacto knives the sharp end of a big safety pin works well. I like to use it when trying to get the release paper off the double stick tape. I have one ice pick that is new old stock and has a protective cardboard tube still on it. Here is a couple pictures but there are more I didn't gather from the metal shop out back.
March 8, 20188 yr Pretty cool collection. I have 1 scratch awl by Stanley . Have an icepick my FIL had with a cover and the cover end has a flat so you know which end has the point before opening
March 8, 20188 yr Author The scratch all with the light colored handle in the upper right has Miller Falls stamped in the ferrule.
March 9, 20188 yr Impressive collection...glad to see I'm not alone here being obsessed appreciative for old tools. The pin vises are really neat...don't recall ever seeing any during my hunts... Really like the two wooden handled X-acto knife blade holders. The tool with the dark handle with the "flared" tip to the lower left of the red handled pick looks to be an Irwin 900 screw starter? Should be stamped/engraved along the shank...tip is tapered with thread like grooves to work as "tap"
