ON MANY POST W/PICTURES, I SEE THESE PLAINS/? THAT SEEM TO BE SO IMPORTANT FOR FINISHING SOME PART OF  SOMETHING BEING PUT TOGETHER/ASSEMBLED WITH WOOD.

ISN'T THIS JUST A BRAGGING THING FOR THE OWNER/POSSER?

I BEEN DOING WW'ING BIG PART OF MY LIFE AND HAVE NO USE FOR A PLAIN.

WITH GOOD BLADE ON TS & BS & CHOP SAW & JIG SAW, AND 12'' PLAINER. VARIOUS AND SUN DRAY ROUTER BITS & HOLE BITS UP TO MORE'N 3''. SANDERS THAT LEAVES AN AREA SO SMOOTH A FLY IS DARE-SOME TO LITE ON'IT. A GOD GIVEN BODY & MIND ON HOW & WHEN TO USE THESE MIRACLES POWERED BY 110 VOLTS.

I DON'T UNDESTAND THE NEED, OR IS IT COLLECTION, OF THESE PLAINS.

YEAW I KNO SOME SMART MOUTH/BRAIN'S GONNA COMMENT ON MY spellin & grammer, HAVE A BALL, I made thru the 6th grade. Cya.

I'VE READ THE VARIOUS POST ABOUT BAR CLAMPS. GENERALLY, SEEMS LIKE HF CLAMPS SHOULD BE UNLAWFUL TO SELL!! I BEEN DOING WW'ING FOR MANY YEARS & I BUY CLAMPS WHERE EVER THEY ARE THE CHEAPEST!  TIGHT IS TIGHT, MAKES NO DIFFERENCE IF IT'S ON A RR BOX CAR OR A CEDAR/BLANKET CHEST, THAT I LOVE TO BUILD.  I'VE TIGHTEN THOSE CHEAP BAR CLAMPS UNTIL THE BARS WERE BOWING FROM THE PRESSURE. HAVE NEVER HAD ONE PROBLEM WITH CHEAP BAR CLAMPS.

I DON'T BRAG ABOUT ANY OF MY WW'ING JUNK, IT ALL DOES WHAT I EXPECT'M TO DO.  NO, NO,I DON'T WORK FOR HF OR ANYONE ELSE, 'CEPT THE WIFE, DON'T EVEN KNO ANYONE THAT DOES!. I HAVE LITTLE CLAMPS(not bar for jewelry boxes) NOT AS LONG AS YOUR LITTLE FINGER, HAVE ''VICE GRIP'' TYPE CLAMPS. EVEN GOT A PIPE CLAMP OR TWO, DON'T REMEMBER LAST TIME I USED'M.

****DON'T INTEND TO ROUSE ANYONE WITH this POST, just telling it like it is.

****ONE  THING TO BASE YOUR CONSIDERING ON, YOU CAN DRIVE CROSS COUNTRY WITH A high luxury car or a LOW PRICE model, both will get you there.

I have 3 planes. Can't use any of them effectively.

As for clamps, I have some from just about everywhere- including shop made- but it always turns out I never have at least one that's just the right size.

Buck the best reason for driving cross country in a Ferrari  instead of a model A Ford is the Ferrari will more attract

more females. You still remember what one of those females looks like don't you???

The females are smart for they believe a Ferrari owner will be able to spend more money on them where the model A owner will probably make you buy your own lunch.

Now what were you explaining why its just as good being cheap.

Hey when I got out of high school we would drive through the college campus on weekends. If we were in flashy new cars,, the girls would walk up to the car and start talking like they wanted to get to know us........But when we drove up in an old clunker there would be no one close to talk to...True story.......So we quit going to the college to drive around for we knew for sure the girls were after the guys with money.  True story...

We then started going to a little town 30 miles away on week end nights and the girls in that town didn't care what you drove up in for they were all friendly and, by the way , thats where I met my wife to be......

Hey Lew if you have three planes, we need to talk to you for my wife is a registered pilot. She ask me not long after we got married that there was something she wanted to do and if it was okay with me for it would cost some money and was it okay with me. Well what is it you want to do... I want to take flying lessons. You mean in an airplane???

Yes, I said okay if you can work it in the budget. But don't ever ask me to go up in the plane with you...And as of now I have never flown with her..........I taught her how to drive a car was the reason I thought staying on the ground would be the best thing to do.....What kind of planes do yo have???

They are a block plane, smoothing plane and a shoulder plane- none have wings!

However, I do love airplanes! Have since I was little. I grew up near an airport so there were always light aircraft around. In the Navy, I worked on attack aircraft- the A-6 Intruder. My high school teacher and friend had a 1954 twin engine Piper Apache. He would often ask me to help him with service and installations on it and then would take me up for a ride. He just had to give up flying due to health issues. I never could afford flying lessons.

I got my private pilot's license in the AF. Used to fly little Cessna 150s and 172s. At the base aero club, you could rent either one for $10 a day WET.

Got out of the AF and found that flying was a bit more expensive. I think I went up for an hour just one time as a civilian. Took off, circled the field and did one T&G, a go around and landed. $150.

Luv yr rantz yo!

Nearest I ever got to flying a plane was taking a ride in a B-47, sitting in the navigators seat, while I was in the Air Force.

Rode back and forth to school my sophomore year before we moved with a teacher who had a pilots license. He owned a Piper Bravo, 4 seater. I had never flown before. He took me up a few times and was willing to give me lessons for cheap. I did one take-off on my own and a few touch-n-go landings but we moved and I didn't continue. I've kicked myself in the butt dozens of time since for not continuing.

One of my nephews had his pilots license before he was old enough to legally drive. He eventually went to college for aviation, obtained his instructor certification, multi-engine rating and now is jet engine certified. Pilots for a private jet charter company in NE Indiana near Fort Wayne now. His two most famous charters so far was Tubby Rice when he was still BB coach at Minnesota and a couple excursions with Condeleezza Rice. I've only flown with him once and that was in a 2 seat ultra-light. We buzzed a couple small herd of deer...That was fun:P

@It Was Al B, small world. Had a ride on the IP seat in the B-47. I was at Davis Monthan at the time. Where were you? What was your AFSC? Mine was 43151E. Geeze, can't believe that after over 50 years, I still remember that number.

Buck, all I can say is that using a hand plane is very soothing, and a big enjoyment in woodworking, at least to me. That said, I'm not all that good with one but I still find pleasure when I'm using them. Different strokes for different folks (gawd, does that phrase age me?).

Gene, I was at McConnell AFB in Wichita Kansas. Actually it still was called Wichita AFB at the time. MY AFSC was 42152. Discharged  12/19/55

I guess you never forget some numbers.

I hear ya Al.  My AFSC was 46250

Buck Nall  do you see how misspelling a word can get a persons post changed right quick.

I don't think everyone was trying to steal your original post about plans but being a bunch of guys with time extra and nothing to do kinda got out of hand..... Maybe when it ain't so cold things will get better....

So yes I would rather drive across country in the most expensive auto there is rather than an old clunker.. If for no other reason it would make my smile a lot wider....

I think I can speak from some experience here.  As Jess might confirm...  Last year I drove darn near across the country in a Chrysler 300 and on the way back a Nissan Versa.

Give me the 300 any day!:D

And my AFSC was 25251

Gonna Get Low!

Ol Buck, sir, while reading your posts, this movie came to mind, since I don't know you in real life, I can only go by the online presence you have created, which I have no doubt in my mind, is the real Ol Buck. With this presence, I just thought of a movie just now, I saw a few years back and I love it to this day, as a matter of fact, this movie inspired me to make my decision to build my own simple pine box to be buried in when the time comes, if God allows me the time to build it. The main character in this movie is a woodworker, he built his own box to be buried in. The movie is a sleeper, it did not get much attention, but in my opinion, it ranks up there with the sleeper "Oh Brother Where Art Thou". I hope you are not offended by my assumptions, but the main character in this movie (played by Robert Duvall) reminds me of what I have come to know and read here by Ol Buck. Not so much to the detail, but the simplicity and profound depth at the same time this character possesses. I feel you and the main character in this movie would get along really well if you ever met. If you have not seen the movie, see it, it's a fun movie.

Thanks John for the reminder...I'd forgotten about this movie. I've seen it twice and loved it! It is an AWESOME movie. Great casting for the parts.

I may just have to rent it this coming weekend.
