February 10, 20188 yr What kind of wax do you use? I used to use Johnsons paste wax and several years ago Bonnie Klein a local wood turner was giving a demonstration for our WW Club and mentioned she liked the Lundmark carnuba paste wax. She said she uses it because it gives a hard finish and easy to apply and buff out and prevents finger prints on her work when people handle it. So I bought some and have been using it since with good results. https://www.amazon.com/Lundmark-Wax-LUN-3206P001-6-Applicable-Paste/dp/B000BYAQC2?SubscriptionId=AKIAIKBZ7IH7LXTW3ARA&&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B000BYAQC2&tag=wwwbookcompar-20&ascsubtag=5a7e56cceba0c90d98bc9bd8 Herb
February 10, 20188 yr Carnauba wax is the hardest organic wax known to man. It grows as a powder on the leaves of the Carnauba tress in Brazil. It is then processed into 100% Carnauba wax, both paste and liquid, known for it's deep shine and longevity. TreWax manufactures probably the finest grade known. That is all I use while "finishing the finish." No, I did not open the long link above. Larry Jenkins

February 10, 20188 yr There was actually a product comparison done by one of the magazines in the past year or 2 on the various waxes available to the woodworker. It was interesting reading (to me) because I didn't realize there were so many available...I also didn't realize how expensive some of them were. The only thing I remember was what he choose as his favorite...it's was Johnson's paste wax. I'm indifferent about the comparison. Seems to me that the mainstream brands are all pretty good. I happen to have a can of Trewax on hand along with a can of Johnson's that I use regularly, but I hardly ever use them for finishing. They are just for my tools adn rust prevention.
February 10, 20188 yr I've used Johnson's Wax and I have a can of dark BriWax that I sometimes use on walnut. I try not to use wax on anything that gets touched a lot.
February 10, 20188 yr I used to use Briwax and still have some. Now I use Renaissance Wax and it works great . Very resistant to fingerprints and only takes a very small amount. I have a can probably for 5 years and is maybe one-third gone. It is expensive but well worth the cost. They use it in Museums . One of the turners on YouTube did a video comparing it to generic microcrystalline wax and carnuba. Here it is in 5 parts check out #3 also Edited February 10, 20188 yr by Gerald
