Didn't want to wait until Wednesday to share this. I spent a little time in Japan but only remember 2 words of the language.

The turning pat of this was really interesting with the different techniqe. That was only the beginning, pretty amazing.

I Don't speak the language but when I saw her smile and enthusiasm I felt I was about to see something good.  I wasn't let down.  I don't know where you found this Lew but I was thrilled to see it.  Made my life a little brighter.  Loved it!  Too Kool!  I had tried to balance mine out and was taping pennies to them and thought about small nails as weight but just didn't take the time and searched out a balanced material instead.  A big thanks for posting this.

I don't turn and I like the video..

any commentary..

1st... his steady rest...

2nd.. his type of chisels w/ the returned/hooked cutting bevel...

Thanks very much.  Talk about a true artisan...  wow  Inspirational to say the least!

WoW!!! Not a caliper, rule, scale or the like...

Simply amazing...a truly gifted individual.

interesting trick that turning so that the "rest" isan't used the way we do to take the force of turning but rather  merely to rest the tool and their hand takes the force of turning.   A result is that a catch for them is a trifling thing.  the tool merely bounces away .

That video is mesmerizing!!!

I missed this when first posted, thanks Lew.  That guy is tops, for sure!
