Anybody ordered sandpaper lately? Just ordered some Norton Prosand and the 120 was $20 for 20 9x11 sheets. Has something happened to cause this or did I just order the expensive stuff? On Amazon it is over 40.

Seems kinda pricey.

Gerald..  Thank yo so much for posting an image of the Chess set you made.  I like the variation.  Did you hand form the pieces on a lathe?  I did mine using hand/eye on my metal lathe.  Made two sets for the Grand kids.

Local Lowes wants $12 for 25 sheets.

I took a lead from Lew a few years ago and visited Supergrit just outside of Gettysburg.  Great place to buy sandpaper.

I was at a discount place a few days ago and they had some 3M and some who-knows-what brand and it ALL seemed expensive to me.   I must be getting into my cheap codger phase. 

I've bought an awful lot of abrasive paper over the years.  One cruel lesson that seems  inescapable is that you really do get what you paid for.

Another truism, Cliff!

"TANSTAAFL" should be prominently displayed in every shop. Not only to remind us of that truth but as a caution to our families and friends, as well. 

For finishing, I like 3M's 216U (aka Sandblaster) in P400 grit.   It's expensive, but goes a long way.   I can sand 4 coats of finish on a dining table and still have life left in 1/4 sheet.

 

A few years ago, Peachtree had a sale on Norton sandpaper 50 sheets each of about 5 or 6 different grits for one price.   I'm still working on all that.

Pferd is another abrasive that produces well and lasts a long time....

Pferd looks interesting, Stick. Unfortunately, they are unable to provide distributor locations.  

You all might be surprised at the quality, selection, and price of Ace brand papers and disks. Also, Lowes carries a decent selection of Shopsmith brand papers and disks. Excellent quality. They ain't cheap, though.

I'm a fan of 3M Sandblaster paper and Lowe's stocks it.  They tried to put some cheaper paper in stock but didn't last long and they restocked the 3M.  The back is coated with something that gives a better grip and it lasts.

At $3.27 for 4 sheets, not a bad deal, either.

I don't use a lot of sandpaper, for prep work I prefer card scrapers if I can. I, also, use non-woven abrasive pads (i.e. 3M Scotchbrite) when I can...they last forever.
