Carry a scribe in your pocket? could be a hazzard

I like to carry my scribe in a pocket for easy access, but a sharp metal pointy thing in your pocket can also cause pain and bloodshed!  Solution...grab a retractable ball-point pen and fit it with a scriber "refill".  An appropriate length of drill rod sharpened to a point and tapered as needed to resemble the original ink cartridge...a ring of solder to hold the spring and presto!  A retractable scribe that is safe to carry in a shirt pocket!

Cool idea Dave! Thanks!

Duh...why didn't I think of that (slapping forehead)...

Great idea...now all I need to do is pick a pen to cannibalize...

I actually have one of these that was made to be a scribe in  the form of a retractable pen. the tip is carbide it was sold into the  laboratory glass industry.

the crud on it is 20+ year old duct tape adhesive all hard and dusty

Vintage...

I use a folding knife on wood. Those scribes look like they'd be for stuff much harder.

I use scribes when working with metal.  Pencil marks are sometimes impossible to see on metal.

hyper fine felt tip...

or color the area before marking w/ layout marking dye...

w/ marking dye you change the marks and not get lost in which mark you are suppose to be using...

Still have a bottle of marking dye. Wonder how long it's good for? Haven't used it in 30 years or so.

I kept that stuff around when I was doing a lot of work.  The little bit I do now the scribe works fine.
