Smallpatch Posted October 31, 2017 Report Posted October 31, 2017 While looking through Pinterest.com for another project I ran across a cluster of rocking chairs. Don't know what style you are gonna be known for but I would think you should build at least one of every style every invented so all those folks can get a good idea if you might be on the up and up about being a woodworker.... And since now would be the best time ever to start accumulating the free wood you might need for the next 30 or 40 years of chair building so get started now. Tune up that chain saw and head up or down? to all that scorched wood thats up there that folks are needing to move to get their homes rebuilt... Just don't forget every person has different taste. You do need to be able to please those folks that's got money to burn and remember not every one wants what their neighbors have. Just keep your mind clear for all suggestions.. 20125529565092976 ROCKING CHAIR.htm 20125529565092976 ROCKING CHAIR.htm Cal, Grandpadave52 and LarryS 3 Quote

Smallpatch Posted October 31, 2017 Author Report Posted October 31, 2017 Or a diamond back sticking his head out a hole.... would probably turn that stuff into kindling real quick.... Gerald I do have a few close to the back of the chair... I save things like this on downloads. Some I can never take them off to use and some I print out , enlarge, then use only certain areas that will fit into what ever I am trying to come up with.... saves wear and tear on the french curve set... Smallpatch Posted October 31, 2017 Author Report Posted October 31, 2017 Dan, you and Steve and you Gerald and all the rest of you guys who turn all the time needs to start adding some carving thingies to your bowls and things. Maybe make a carved base for a bowl to set in or around the top edges. Hey don't being somewhat different kinda sits there and burns a hole in you little minds wanting to add other things????? And don't give me that crap about not having enough patience to do things like that. Patience is what got you guys this far in life so thats no excuse!!! Grandpadave52, Cal and HARO50 3 Quote

Never claimed to be a woodworker @Smallpatch. Those fancy chairs aren't my style my friend, never will be. I'm a simple man, with simple tastes, and I like simple clean lines in what I do. On the up and up? That's like saying, you can only be country if your from the south and drive a pickup truck. It's a state of mind my man, a state of mind. Thanks Jess, but I'll decline your challenge. HARO50, LarryS, Grandpadave52 and 2 others 3 2 Quote

Smallpatch Posted October 31, 2017 Author Report Posted October 31, 2017 Now John, slow down and smell the roses.... You are sounding just like a person who has retired and don't give a rats - - -. Just remember the other person is the one you will be trying to take their money and make them smile as they are leaving... Think of it this way,,,,,,, If you have all those other designs built and sitting there knowing you will not want to build them, okay, simply make the ones you don't want to build three of four times higher so in case you get talked into building them anyway, hooray, this is where the money is. So your wife will have to buy a large wheel barrow to get all that money down to the bank in return making your retirement being reduced in terms of years instead of days. Just remember social security use to be and I think it still is, is figured on the last five years of your employment and for some strange reason, I'm talk about self employed, that is when average guys start screwing themselves and not declaring what they actually made those last five years and as a results they start drawing way less than if they had been honest and declared it...... HO HO HO HARO50 and Cal 2 Quote

Jesse I have carved on turnings but not extensively. I do have two possible projects turned. A vase and will carve cat tails and a hollow form with grapevine wrapped around the top. The second may not happen as that has been started over 2 years. Here is a vase carved to resemble a tulip. Thanks for the compliment as I could not come close to what you do. HARO50 and Cal 2 Quote

HO HO HO Jess, I'm not in business and I'm not selling. I got a full time day job as a Land Surveyor, woodworking is for fun, sometimes someone may ask me to build for a cost, but I don't really do that anymore. Between running The Patriot Woodworker, my full time day job, and my wife and kids, woodworking is for fun, not business. I used to build for money, but not anymore. From my day job, I'll have a wonderful retirement, not worried about that one bit. I'm good and set. Still trying to understand how you got on this roll with me and thought I was even in business? Been months it seems since I even built anything. Been doing too many honey do'es and fixing our house up. You got me man. Somehow I ended up as the subject of your topic. I enjoy your work very much Jess, I'll just sit back and watch you build. Cal, LarryS and HARO50 3 Quote
Gene Howe Posted November 1, 2017 Report Posted November 1, 2017 It's true, woodworking is fun. But, if someone wants to give me a bucket of money for something I made, who am I to argue? Someone once said that money is just a way to keep score. I'm not that competitive, I guess. Cal and HARO50 1 1 Quote
